Far Cry

Well I just got the game a couple of days ago and its Who else plays it here? I have a Pentium 4 2.4 GHz, a geforce 4 ti 4200 and im running the game on medium graphics, it lags quite a bit. Looks like im going to have to turn down all the graphics to improve my FPS. I know it requires a pretty fast computer and a video card to match.. but how does it run for you? Also what are your opinions on the actual game?

Posted by dukes on Apr-09-2004 09:19:

i turn everything right down...gameplay is more important to me that prettyness. seems like prettyness is more important to people these days which is a shame.

farcry is a quality game but i broke one of the scripts preventing me from continuing to the next level on the hardest setting. and a differant one on the easiest

but a very well made game. could have been better if it left out the humerous comments as it would have made the game more atmospheric.

anyway im not really understanding why so many people are complaining about this game being laggy...turn the settings down coz games aint all bout looks!

I agree with you when you say gameplay is important. But the graphics of this game were so impressive.. I dont mind turning down the graphics if it results in some much needed improvement in framerate.

just wait for doom III then ramp up its settings and watch your computer explode!

yer i love the thermal vision in higher detail, looks cool as fuck. and the lighting effects are damn nice too!

still.....DOOM III!!!

Posted by Synchronized on Apr-09-2004 14:58:

Hahaha Doom III will kill my computer! Speaking of far cry, the one thing that I immediately took notice off was the water.. so nicely done. Anyway im not even going to try doom 3 until I getter a better video card

Posted by dukes on Apr-09-2004 19:27:

i hope you are remembering to put anti aliasing as off as possable (setting 1 i think) they call it something else in farcry coz they are wierd but its defo anti aliasing.

antialiasing is what fries graphics cards most! +you dont really need it. for the fps drop to prettyness ratio its rubish.

best weapon(most fun) has got to be the AR52 or some name like that

yer i need new stuff for doom III need money......so fingers crossed for it to be delayed heheh

heheheh im a cheapskate brat and downloaded the full game before release so ive completed it on normal setting, half way through on hardest (before got stuck due to bug) and 2 3rds on easy (before got stuck due to bug)

see if the game had a nice net cod i recon it would be sooo fucking cool to play! just feels so nice. but true the weapeopns are not balanced like in UT2004 but are weapeons balanced in real life? i think not!

My friend who plays a lot online says that multiplayer is great for this game.. I havent played online yet so I wont say anything hahaha you are the only one who has repiled to my thread..

Posted by BadBadNeil on Apr-15-2004 16:59:

I'm at the very last room in the very last level and I cant beat it!!

Excellent game though, runs smoothly and looks great. I am a bit pissed at the damn monkey monsters. Sorry but two hit kills while jumping thirty feet is rediculous and the rocket guys are way too tough to kill. Other than that its been good.

Just discovered this part of the forums today

I finally beat Far Cry last night. Man what a freakin long ass game that was! And a hard one at that. The last level when you are in the arena type thing after loading up in that weapon stock pile room and there are like 6 of those big dudes who shoot missile after missle at you... Holy shit it took me forever to get past that but once I did, the end of the game was only minutes away.

This game has to be one of the best looking games ever. I have a monster system so I have everything turned up and it runs smooth. I wish that everyone could enjoy it like that. The multiplayer I think sucks personally. Its just too buggy right now. The single player experience is where this game shines. Now its on to Painkiller. I started on this game last night and holy SHIT I love it!!! Super fast paced and the graphics are insane! Its like Serious Sam on Ecstasy with a demonic twist! Check it out!

*POSSIBLE SPOILER* (Tip for BadBadneil for the level he is having trouble with)

BadBadneil here is a little tip for you that might help. In the very last level, there is the weapons stock pile room. You can only really stock up on maybe a 1/3 of what is in there. Then when you go outside to fight all those dudes, the giant door closes shut behind you, cutting you off from returning back to that stock pile room to power back up. Well in that stock pile room there are some chairs. Use your shotgun and blast one of the chairs all the way to where the huge double doors open up. I know its kind of a pain in the ass getting the chair all the way there but its worth it. Open up the first big door and push the chair so it holds the door open. This way, you can kill a bunch of those big missle dudes, then go back through the door, back to the stock pile room and power back up.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

can you please edit that post to be like this:

POSSABLE SPOILERS!!!

*many more spaces*

then your text here. just stops ruining the game for someone if they hapen across this by accident. i know it aint a big spoiler but still

POSSIBLE SPOILER LOL

Yeah I tried that door trick before but I kept getting hit with splash damage from the rockets or from the snipers. Also the door doesnt stay open long because the chair keeps moving when the door closes. I've given up on that part and i've been playing UT more now Maybe i'll come back to it one day when I can calm down and not throw and break things in the room.

Posted by Magnus on Apr-16-2004 22:40:

BadBadNeil I feel your pain man. Throwing and breaking things in the room sounds just like me when I played that part (and many other parts in Far Cry for that matter.) That game renewed my video game anger from days of old.

Posted by BadBadNeil on Apr-17-2004 23:51:

haha so true. I used to be much worse when I was younger. One of the parts that got me the most was when you land with only 10 bullets and there are like 30 mutants. When I first landed I was like WTF theres no way.

probly will regret it but hey live for the moment.

oh and ive removed farcry from the HDD coz its been done on the hardest setting so now i need another game to challenge me (day of the tentical)

Posted by Synchronized on Apr-19-2004 09:13:

I am also on the lookout for some new games, hopefully something that is popular online, Splinter cell 2 or Unreal Tournament 2004 looks good I probably wont even finish farcry..

Posted by Magnus on Apr-19-2004 20:12:

Guys pick up Painkiller!!! Ever since Far Cry, its been keeping me glued to my PC. Its a breath of fresh air coming from playing Far Cry because its a FPS yes, but its completely opposite in the fact that instead of stealth and tactics in Far Cry, its just blast anything that moves as fast as you can in Painkiller. Check it out!

Thats funny you say Serious Sam dukes because Painkiller is basically Serious Sam but with WAY better graphics. You basically go from section to section, killing bazillions of enemies all while running backwards and holding down the fire button. Blood is firing everywhere and the physics are top notch. There are TONS of secrets too like hidden items, hidden areas. When you beat a level, you are told what you have found and what you have missed. I ususally miss tons of shit but I'm always dumbfounded because I explore like a mofo. Things must be very well hidden or something or else I'm losing my touch in my old age...
