I hate chillout!

Dude I don't have time to explain this now as I have to go straight to class but I just felt an impassioned urge to share this fact. I've never liked it as a genre, no matter how much I hear and I promise I'll explain later if I get some responses and a discussion about why other people like or dislike it. Does chillout make you relaxed or drive you up the wall, conversely?

it makes me so ucking relaxed i fall asleep o_O

its good when ur really realyl realyl bored and its a nice day and ur not going out anyweher and u can just listen to chillout stuff and uh..eventually ull be somewhere else dreamin.. :P

i love chillout. of course, in the right situation. i can't listen to it while driving, but sometimes at work it's so relaxing, or when im laying in bed about to fall asleep.

The latter Ive always hated it and I avoid it as much as I can.

I like chillout, but I think that it's just as relaxing to listen to any type of powerful music at high volume.

Posted by UnBracKo on Apr-09-2004 15:26:

I'm not into chill/ambient music just not my cup of tea... I prefer do other things for relax or listen other stuff like prog. (yes! progressive house makes me relax hehe)

Don't like it, unless im sleepy and actually need to 'chill out' but most of the time its just fking annoying.

Posted by Fast Turtle on Apr-09-2004 16:42:

Depends who's doing the chill out.

Posted by elena on Apr-09-2004 16:52:

obviously you havent heard proper chill out then
the thing about it is that sometimes its borderline loungy-dedicated-to-40-yr-olds-at-a-sketchy-bar and good-to-chill-to music.

Posted by wwu.punisher on Apr-09-2004 16:56:

I'm not a big chillout fan, either, but that's largely due to the fact that I can fall asleep, work, etc. listening to just about anything. (I fell asleep at my desk the other day while listening to one of the Trance Energy 2004 sets. Beat that!

who cares what you dislike, or actually like ?

Posted by Floorfiller on Apr-09-2004 17:35:

i also don't care what you think...

i like any type of music as long as its good. as for chillout...i can always throw on some Ulrich Schnauss and chill the fuck out hehehe

Posted by Electronicmaji on Apr-09-2004 17:40:

chillout helps me stop my headaches...

Posted by torontotrance on Apr-09-2004 18:00:

New Ulrich Schnauss album out this year eh floorfiller...he told me that personally.

I review chillout/ambient and downtempo and love it

I don't listen to it to chillout....I just like diverse music.

if anyone wants some recommendations then pm me, happy to help.

I burned 12 Cafe Del mar albums onto a MP3 CD and have been listening to them in my car for the last 3 months (I don't drive much). I used to enjoy it, and it definately makes me more mellow while I drive, but I swear that as soon as I get all the way thru the CD, it is going out the window, cause no way do I want to listen to ANY chillout for at least a year.

Posted by MarathonMan on Apr-09-2004 20:00:

I love chillout! I mostly listen to it when i'm hungover though!

Posted by dark_tenshi on Apr-09-2004 20:57:

Different types of music serve different occations. I listen ambient or chillout stuff when I want to relax, enjoy a cigarette, or take a nap. Not all types of electronic music are dance oriented.

i hate chillout i find it boring cant listen to it for very long

Posted by JayD on Apr-09-2004 21:35:

For me, chill out doesn't necessarily have to be electronica.

Could just as well be downtempo alternative and etc.. Same

Been listening to The Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Maps lately.. May have not been in the bands motive to make it "chill". All this aside, I would classify it as "chill" for me.

Alot of U2's stuff is very downtempo as well.. "chill" for me as well.

Although I'm not a fan of the MOS "Chill Out Esque", definitly a fan of the more oblivious side of downtempo music. Yet, just an example of how people use terms and exploitation.

With any type of music, their always going to be something that fit's your needs.

You just have to find it....

i love it....

Posted by KaBaLaH on Apr-09-2004 22:01:

i like chill out very much but some chill out compilation are really awful.. i think you heard some of these :P

Posted by Kirby on Apr-10-2004 00:21:

Aha well the reason I don't like it is it tends to sound really boring, way too flaccid, tepid, lifeless etc, and they sap some of the best parts of the songs to make the chillout mix or whatever. Maybe it's better if it's an album that's originally chillout style, but as for chill remixes, even worse... so I should have specified that...

Posted by torontotrance on Apr-10-2004 01:13:

yes the famous chillout compilations are just a money grab

MOS sold 600K copies of the first CD they did and now they are whoring it.

Sometimes there is nothing better!

Posted by Noctone on Apr-10-2004 01:50:

To each his/her own. Personally I'm as big a fan of downtempo/chillout as I am of trance. Bent - Programmed To Love and Nightmares on Wax - Carboot Soul will always be top ten albums in my mind. Nightmares on Wax - Mind-Eye is, to me, one of the best songs ever. It has yet to grow the slightest bit old for me.
