My new mixer is ORGASMIC

due to the joys of ebay.de i finally have a new mixer, well i've had it for a week but i've been so busy mixing i haven't touched my computer...

It's amazing! I love it!

Built like a tank and feel so smooth and solid. It's so nice to mix with because everything sounds so clear... Definatly a huge improvement in sound and build quality over the pioneer/newmark/gemini gear i've used. I got an amazing price too, $500... second hand but in perfect condition. Quite a bit less than the RRP! Not sure what the average price is like in Australia but Rhythm and Soul has the HAK310 for $999 and the HAK360 for $1599. I LOVE THIS MIXER! :-) If anyone is thinking of buying a new mixer go play with the Ecler stuff!

oi u,
how's germany going?

Posted by JayKuE on Apr-11-2004 17:08:

HAKS come with a lifetime warranty too, if i remember correctly

sturdy indeed.

Nice!

Would the phrase "techno-chubby" be appropriate?

Germany is going very well, i just woke up after going out last night to see Hardy Heller play and a bunch of other good prog dj's. I was talking to Hardy for ages before i worked out who he was! It was a very good night though. It's pretty strange how in Germany a town with 100 000 people has quite a few good trace/prog clubs! Last month
Talla 2XLC was buying my drinks all night and got me very, very drunk on Jeagermeister. I attempted to walk home from his hotel and got very, very lost in the forest for 2 hours.... Germany's a lot of fun so far... miss the melbourne scene a bit though and i really miss Yas, but i'm surviving here! I've been mixing about 4-6 hour per day with my new toy! I really should ease back a little and see a bit more of Germany/europe! Budapest/Hungary is still winning for best place to go clubbing in Europe. My german is getting a lot better too, the real test comes next week though, when my proper classes start! i'm scared! I think it's all going to turn out well. July is looking pretty busy with the number of parties going on in Europe! It's all good!

one.tjc: Pants! I think it's the sexiest mixer in existance, it's so red and shiny! :-) Much sexier than the new HAK360 which is just black and silver... I'm going to try and learn how to scratch just so i can use a few more features of this thing! Like all the hamster and shape nobs on the front.... :-)

webmeister: I'm not sure if techno-chubby was the first thing that came to mind.... maybe prog-a-rific?

sexiest in existance?!

it looks maroonish yuckiness with silvery knobs

give me a djm600 anyday

[the Denon DNX1500looks quite yummy too! well not really, but its a cool mixer thatd look good alongside my dn-d4000's]

I've got one of these on the way
Just need to wait for it to arrive in the country, its not a V6 but it'll do

If the Ecler is orgasmic then this thing is spontaneous combustion

daaaamn, was looking at that today - how much did you manage to pick it up for?

[btw, the rotary version looks sexier]

$2500
The rotary does look nice but its more expensive and I've heard reports of the rotors not being the best as well as being a bit cramped
I decided to stick with what I know

I've had mine on order for 3 weeks too. Hope the damn thing hurries up. I want to record my new demo.

I'm still pretty happy with my beast... though i admit, the Xone 92's are a little nicer! I'd choose my ecler over a djm600 any day, even if the ecler was twice the price of the djm... but i admit i'd go the A&H if i had unlimited money... prefer to have the ecler and spend the rest on tunes though... There is a new ecler out too....

A friend here in Germany has played on the A&H V6 and is now saving up to buy one because he is in love with it.... No normal eq, only lowpass filter, all rotary...etc and not really cheap, but very, very nice...

Posted by Stu on Apr-15-2004 01:21:

I'd love a V6 too but unless you have a huge Nexo sound system at home there is absolutely NO point in owning one for home use
The thing retails for AUD$12995 here in Australia but you can get it for about AUD$8000 shipped over from the US

You can get an 3 band EQ expansion unit that is channel assignable but even that alone retails for about 1500 quid I think.

Even the Xone 92 is complete overkill for home use, my only justification is that I'll never need to buy a new mixer again.

ouch you could buy a half decent car for the price of the v6

has anyone got any [edit: intelligent] thoughts on the behringer djx700, (ie - not "its shit")

im after a cheap mixer to use at home, wont be giving it a thrashing and want to know if its worth it [other option is the numark dxm06, which is only 2chnl and is stuck with the x-fader which i hate]

any thoughts?

[and before you ask, yes i have used the search button]

Posted by Stu on Apr-15-2004 11:41:

From my experience using Berringer mixers at a couple of gigs I'd rather throw my money away than purchase one. Its pretty much the same thing.
They sound terrible and are just cheap knockoffs of Pioneer & Vestax gear, same layout, really cheap components.

Its seriously worth saving up for another couple of months, a Pioneer or Vestax will last you many years longer than any Berringer will. If you get the Berringer you'll just get frustrated and want to buy another mixer within 12-18 months.

see last few post to see what mixer i think you should get..... :-) The ecler Concept 3 is pretty cheap actually. I have used one but i'd give it a go before trying any of the crap brands (that behringer is supposed to be better than the rest of there stuff, but i wouldn't trust it...) The Tascam stuff is also quite affordable, if you can find the top of the line XS-8 (i think it's the XS-8) then it is a VERY good deal....and all these mixers have very smooth nice faders which are great for any style of music, esp trance/prog and you can scratch with any of them too...except probably.. the concept... The SMAC30 might be worth a look if you spend a little more... much better build quality that pioneer/vestax stuff IMHO... and sound quality is uncomparable... a friend has the dxm06 and says it's a lot better than anything else that newmark has made but still pretty crap... Get an ecler, tascam, A&H, dateq, etc or maybe even a pioneer.... :-) Maybe ebay has good prices for you too? If you can get an ecler for the price i got it for it might be worth while to ship it from Europe.... just play with them at a shop in Australia first....

thanks for informative post

i'm not too worried about the longetivity of the mixer as will be using mostly @ home etc, there'll be no eating/drinking smoking/scratching on it and im told that if you are impeccable with your djx700 you wont have any problems.

the dxm06, although having good sound quality is only 2 channel which is OK, but leaves no room for expansion and no option to turn off cross fader, this pretty much rules it out for me, as i'd like to eventually add to my setup as well as being able to use the levels and not the cross fader.

i know second hand mixers are much cheaper for the better product but i'd rather get something new - i know where its been and whats happened to it. [not some old club mixer thats been thrashed every weekend for the past 2years and needs upgrading.]

Rhythm and Soul has the Ecler CONCEPT 3
for $599.00 so that might be a good buy... lasts for ever, not too expensive, good quality stuff, good quality sound, fun to play on and all round quite nice... 3 channel too... 2 of them with faders, one only rotary, it's a complete VCA system (Faders and Crossfader) too, is the behringer? So the faders don't crackel, etc. I'd probably recommend it, much more than the behringer... and i live in Germany so I should be biased for the behringer! :P But this forum isn't MIXER ADDICT so back to talking about trance....

Posted by DynaFire on Apr-15-2004 13:41:

forgot to say, if R&S has it for that much, somewhere else probably has it a bit cheaper....

Posted by webmeister on Apr-15-2004 23:21:

Behringer mixers aren't too bad, though they are definitely at the budget end of the spectrum. The sound quality is OK, but when you consider you're getting a direct copy of a Pioneer DJM-600 for around a third of the price, it's difficult to go past.

Though the FX are a bit weird, all 50 effects sound pretty much the same : /

and they are all at set bpm [so unless your tunes are at ~125bpm its quite useless] and shite..

Posted by DynaFire on Apr-16-2004 19:02:

Try the concept out and tell me what you think. It doesn't have as many flashing lights as the behringer but it is much nicer....
