Drunk a little computer problem

I downloaded this video (no not porno) that screws all the memory when played, or even when I try tp rename it (it wont let me). I can't delete it, even after restart (it says it's being used..)

anyone might have an idea of what's going on?

could be currupted. or a virus inside of it. get a virus detector and scan it.

hardly seems worth it if it wasnt porno

I scaned for viruses, but nothing
do you have an idea of how to delete it? (with out getting the 'it being used by something' msg?

Posted by Cloudburst on Apr-10-2004 00:35:

Try delete it using the command promt... (type command in run, or find it in the start menu). Browse to your file and write "del filename"...

If you're running any form of Windows after 2k, the programmers put in this feature that will preview the video in the filebrowser via windows media player. They might have fixed it since then in the form of a patch for either windows or wmp, but what I would do is create a text file and delete them both together, as wmp can't preview two files at a time.

restart your computer.

If windows does not load up, you have a virus. if it does, you can delete the movie now.

see what happens when you don't download porn

Boot in safe mode and you should be able to delete it.

i have that, it's fine for me.

probably the size of it + maybe it was corrupted, so windows went berzerk

i really hate the preview option though sometimes it's useful. is there a way to turn it off?

Anytime, I'd do a virus scan as well to be safe though.

Sander Kleinenberg & James Zabiela - Live @ Pacha Bar (15.02.02)

144Mb

and it takes about 30 seconds for my 2Ghz to scan the 7200 RPM drive @ ~16-20 Mb/s to make the preview

i think it's a shitty codec that they used. fuck, now the properties window has been frozen for like 10 minutes

Posted by whiskers on Apr-10-2004 04:46:

i had to kill the fucking thing cuz explorer.exe was taking up 150mb of virtual memory and 90Mb of physical memory and getting greedier by the minute.

it's the way they coded the videoclip

Posted by Tranc3 on Apr-10-2004 08:23:

Yeah, probably a shitty encoding.

If you have your folder options set to remember individual folder settings, you can just view the files in your video folder with details or as a list...well basically anything that doesn't show the preview, it depends if you're using 2k or XP, as I don't think 2k had a "list view" option, although I may be mistaken.

King

most likely to be a fucked up keyframe or awful encoding...

[start rant]

i fucking hate encoders who release episodes of red dwarf/jackass and its all fucked up, either shit codec or shit img quality.

[/end rant]

there is a reg edit u can do to fix the problem of stuck .avi files... i dont have any place to upload the .reg file tho :-/

Posted by [mart] on Apr-10-2004 11:23:

I've got a similiar problem, heh. There's a 95mb mpeg (also not porno) that doesn't play but also won't delete. Windows says that access is denied because the file is in use, then explorer.exe shoots to 100% cpu usage and eats memory for a while. There's no virus present - just seems to be another Windows issue.

It is a fault in windows 2000 and XP when using NTFS. The problem is large files corrupt easily. The acess bit gets corrupetd and the file gets locked. or the preview window is trying to play a corrupted file and is holding the file open.

There are two solutions
1) try safe mode doesn't allways work
2) format.
