Platinum
Is it common for trance tracks to sell Platinum? I saw on discogs that Sandstorm has, and was wondering if this is common or just because of Sandstorms popularity.
In a way I think that's wrong. Mass production of a product. I mean yea it's great for people who want to own it and listen to it any time they want, but it loses the feeling of owning something rare, ya know what I mean?
Knowing a track like Sasha - Xpander going platinum makes me confused. Is it because it REALLY is that good, or just the hype everyone gives it? IMO, greatest track ever...
But in Sandstorms case, fuck if I care...
Anyways, I wouldn't doubt other tracks have...but I wouldn't say it's common. How much is platinum anyways?
in the US platinum is 1 million CDs SHIPPED in UK its differnt (a lot less).
For trance it is EXTREEMLY RAIR, as with 'electronica' in general. The first Electronica album to go platimun(US) was Fatboy Slim - You've Come A Long Way Baby(1999?). I know that ATB's - Moving Melodies has sold 1 million plus world wide, but that doesnt make it platinum(i dont know if it is). Moby's Play is the largest selling electronica album of all time, if anyone cares. In terms of individual tracks going platinum... i have no idea, ask your relatives?
Ok I know it's not very common . Put it this way: I want to know what other tracks have gone platinum, if any. Bondor has the right idea.
i don't even think too many singles are platnium...but i can see sandstorm i suppose....maybe also Zombie Nation??
anyway, yeah i think that its more likely for albums like Fatboy Slim, Moby, Bassment Jaxx (even that is gonna be hard) to go platnium...
I wonder if those crappy compilations go platinum? I think ATRC and eehh, rock your body rock maybe...are on one of them.
Wouldn't that count as them going platinum.

I think it's 500.000 for shipped singles, at least in stupid norway. They don't even have to sell. If the distributor orders 30.000 copies from the label, the single climbs up the chart in 24 hours. If another single gets imported in quantity of 40.000 the week after, it gets first place.
So in theory, the record doesn't even have to be very popular to reach 1st place on the charts. Don't know about platinum, though.
According my copy of Sandstorm, it sold over 1,000,000 copies worldwide, which quite a few tracks have done. Examples being Public Domain- Operation Blade and Faithless- Insomnia.
The Prodigy's second album sold 1,000,000 in the UK alone, and The Fat of The Land sold 7,000,000 copies worldwide in its first year.
