HappyHappy [REVIEW] Junkie XL @ Avalon 4.10.2004

just got home from avalon. it's rather unfortunate that his set was only 2 hours long (and i got there only when he played dirty sticky floor) but it was definitely one of the more FUN FUN FUN nights i've had in a really long time. it was really refreshing to see someone so in tune with his interactions with the crowd! all of his praisers (notably kidnyce and vtecjunkie), junkie XL did NOT disappoint!!!

take the blue pill... take the red pill....

you've gotta fight!!! *durn durn* for your right.... to PARTAY!!!!

pictures later with everyone too.

Ok... basically... anyone who wasnt there for this fucked up worse than Bill Buckner in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series.

JXL is the sickest performer I have ever seen, the guy is fucking amazing. Ive never seen a DJ get so into the music like he does. Number fucking 1, J00F is going to have to take a backseat because JXL is NO FUCKING JOKE!

I was owned to the fullest extend... I danced my ass off, got a pic with JXL, and danced non-stop for a good 30-45 mins after JXL was done on the main stage. If theres a place for me to dance, Ill find it.

lol
he looks so British in those pics (I know he is Dutch)

So it was a DJ set then, not a live-PA? God how I wish he would make his way to DC.

Nah man, it was a live PA, he was playing off a laptop, Roland MC-909 Sampling Groovebox, and Korg synth.

What a sick fucking night!!! Junkie XL is a fucking pimp and one hell of a performer. I cant believe he droped Peter Tosh - Dont wake up Policeman!!!! Rachel and I were listening to that track in the hotel and were saying how sick it would be if Junkie droped it......INSAIN!!! It was great finally meeting you Highmay. Thanks for the ride to Avalon Joey....sorry you couldnt stick around all night. And last but not least.....it was great partying with vlad, Chris, Jon, Sal....and the rest of your crew.......Chris, your a nut man. Thanks for the pics.
peace,
vtec

well, the best part of the night was the crowd, which had a lot of fun, and the jxl productions we all love.

i went nuts for his dirty sticky mix, Beuaty never fades, JXL - take the red pill, and of course his SOmnambulist mix.

unfortunately, jxl, who i LOVE production wise, doesnt do much but dance. i spent the first 45 minutes of his set up on the balcony watching him work. he didnt touch the laptop, which wasnt running anything. he had the korg keys but never touched anything but an eq knob. the groovebox has a an lcd displaying a meter for each channel and the only thing coming through was channels 1&2 which were automated. all the other channels were blank. the ONLY thing he did to effect the sound realtime was the percussion drop out button located to the right of the jog wheel on the roland.

total disappointment in that regard. jxl is a great showman. his music and his energy really got the crowd in it, but it was really just a well layed out CD.

on a side note, HIGHMAY bro, sorry i didnt call you. i shouldve known you wouldve been there. i decided to go last minute as i was home for easter and my head was out of all day because my new Mini iPod got lifted at the javitz center. (it was then i decided the only thing that could make up for such a loss was a night with junkie).

anyway - glad everyone had fun.
