Do you guys mix the same artist more thn once in a mix?
In my last few mixes ive had a few tracks by the same artists. I figure it shouldn't really matter how many song of each artist you play as long as you like it, or as long as the crowd likes it, or whatever... I realize that theres 7 zillion songs out there, but my record collection hasn't passed 100 yet heh.
I was just curious to see if anyone considers the artist when they mix. By that i mean, Do you throw on a track because of who the artist is? or do you just throw on a track that you think sounds good, regardless of the artist?
i pick songs based on how good they are and where i feel i am going in the set.
i wouldnt care if i spun 2 of the same artists back to back, as long as they flow.
I always try to use different artists and different records (never using the b-side of a record played before). But on a very long mix, it is really hard not to do it...

I don't see why it would matter all that much. Of course, I wouldn't get too carried away with it, but as long as you have some variety I don't see a problem with it.
p.s. new sig.

I've never worried about using multiple tracks by the same artists. If it's good and it flows well, there's no reason not to do so. On a similar note, in the past I was a little sceptical about using the same artist's tracks back-to-back, but not anymore. If you're trying to maintain a certain type of sound or mood, sometimes that's the best way. And half of the time, two or more tracks by the same artist aren't really even similar enough for most folks (without a tracklisting) to know it anyway. So, again--if it's good and it flows well, go for it.
basicly the more you think about things like this the less you are thinking bout the more important aspects of dj'ing. all that matters is
1.right song at the right time regardless of what genere or who did it. if its the right time for this song then nothing can ever change that.
2.mixing the songs efectivly using whatever method would be good for the songs style
i'd even throw in the b-side if it flowed. look what holden did with Nathan Fake's "Outhouse", first mixing the fluffy mix, then mixing the original into it. (all this on Balance005 CD1)
it went down great IMO, give it a listen if you havent. it seems to be quite interesting what you can do with records. look at James Zabiela (sure, he is an abortion of natural ability, but still) he plays snippets of tracks over and over, sometimes will mash up two tracks at once, and then play one of them solo.
its all up to you.
sometimes i do it.. simply because the same artist would probably have similar sounding basslines and instruments.. just helps make things sound right.
Like has been mentioned, chances are you're going to be the only who realises anyway.
hmm .. what is wrong with that .. i sometimes do 2 songs after each other from the same artist .. it's what dukes sad .. it is based on which way you heading ... also .. some records have complete other songs on there B side then the A side
i remember when oakenfold use to play the same track just different remixes after one another. for example, and i'm just making this up
...
6. Solar Stone - Seven Cities (Original Mix)
7. Solar Stone - Seven Cities (Armin Van Buuren Remix)
i dunno man, i guess its just preference.
who really cares - i can't see anyone stopping dancing just because the track is by the same artist....do you think people like tiesto dont play a track because they did the previous one as well - hell no
okay i know same artist
but what about same song
but diff mixes?
for example
perpetuous dreamers futuer fun land 2004 original and remix totally sound different, ... like no similarities whatsoever.. so... ??

i sometimes mix in tracks with same artist(s).. i find that it is easy to mix pvd tracks together if u have a shitty mixer... it also depends on the mixer i think, some are good and some are shit. but the reason i mix tracks with same artists is bcuz they either sound good, and/or they keep the flow going...
p.s. if im not playing trance at a gig, i dont bother mixing at all, just fade one track to the other without beatmatching.

artist doesnt really matter.. plus very few people would know anyway.
ive actually used the same track twice in a row in a club (two diff remixes though), i mashed them together so it was about 12-13 minutes of the same song, but the crowd reaction was great. so in reality, just do what sounds good
Razzi, is that picture a guy with headphones plugged into a pile of shit?
i have made cd's with all the same artist l-vee and oliver lieb....do what ever u want..u make a mix however u want to and don't listen to what anyone says...its ok in my eyes to do whatever u want....
depends upon the situation. say im playing a very hard techy-trance set, chances are i may have two marco V tracks.. big deal!
goes the same for just a proghouse/progtrance set, i may have several JXL remixes and maybe two chicane songs.
i personally see nothing wrong with it. if you are spinning at a club, chances are nobody will even know the songs in the first place, and if they do, would they lose any respect? no.
its purely a matter of what sounds good, not whether i was able to play all different artists. thats just silly.
