Exclamation "Punk Life"

Anyone who lives in a mostly populated "punk state"? Especially delaware and California?(rated top two in the u.s.) What do you define as punk? Myself, USED to be when I lived in Delaware (4 years ago) I always go back to visit my dad, etc., but all my friends there are skateboarders really. What's your definition of punk???? (just not vans, camoflauge, and black baggy pants from hot topic) real stuff!

well come to think of it, i am kinda...i play the gaytar...i skate...i enjoy punk, metal and general rock music...riddled with dnb and trance...

my bf is really the right one to talk about this, cause punk started when he was in school, which is kinda funny cause that was before trancepixie was born... but anyway, i see it in like every town around here (i am in norcal). these kids dress up like punks from the 80s when you know they are spoiled rich kids and that they dont understand what punk even means. i think some of these kids like the music though from what i understand it was a rebellious movement in the beginning to fight conformity and such. now it seems to be the trend. kinda ironic...

eh, maybe the old men on this board will have something more knowledgeable to say about it...

wtf is vans camoflauge and black baggy pants? Sounds kinda ghetto?

here in california there's lots of punkers, they dress more the whole black hair, tight band shirts like rancid, nofx, the ramones, suicide machines, old school afi, real punk bands, black jeans or whatever. Some sport mohawks, but that's old school.

Alot of sk8ers are punkers, but I'd say their more into hardcore rock.

Personally, punker kids are generally losers or like being losers. Thats the really the whole point of punk rock - rebellious rock. Down with mainstream, sing about how much their lives suck, shit like that. I like some punk, but in general it's more to say that if you like punk, you just like to mosh as well. Even though metal and like hardcore, hard rock is better for moshing, punk isn't bad either.

I live in California and I used to go to punk shows alot. But about 4 years or so ago, way too many pussy pop punk/emo bands came around. But that was a little bit after i discovered trance and I started going to parties. I still love listening to punk rock though.

i love the way punk rock chicks look it has a nice aggressive side note to it, it's real cute. However if they are wearing a trucker hat and trying to be cute, i just want to slap them. GOd i hate those hats.

to buttefly's comment. So true, maybe 5% of these kids actually know what punk stands for, the rest think it is just a fashion statement.

Punks are dipshit popular kids who think that they're all that because they can dress up gay.

Punk culture is fuckin dead; has been for a while now.

High school kids trying to live the "punk life" nowadays are a bunch of posers who listen to pop bands like Blink 182 and run around with skateboards cause it's the "cool" thing to do.

The same thing is happening to the Hip Hop culture now; cept hip hop is taking the idea of cashing-in to a whole new level.

we touched up a bit on that in my sociology class; and thats more or less what it was. A rebellion against conforming; going against what is expected of the youth in those days.

exactly.

And their fans....you know, kids used to be persecuted by their peers for liking punk. I got made fun of for it all the time my freshman year of college, because while everyone else was blasting Dave Matthews Band and Jay-Z, I was cranking up Pennywise and Agnostic Front. Now it seems that all the cheerleaders, football players and all the popular kids in school are obsessed with New Found Glory and MxPx. To me, this really goes against the foundation of punk, which was embodied by a bare-bones, anti-social "screw you and all your friends" attitude. It just doesn't make sense to me. I honestly doubt 95% of the kids who listen to "punk" these days are as politically aware, issue aware, or active as their predecessors.

punk has been raped to shit by corporate america.

amen. Most punks I know today are about as rebellious as a pair of shorts in July.

if punk girls and goth girls were actually hot...god Id be on them like a bums feces on a public telephone. I love the alternative side, and dressing differently, its just that most people who do it, do it because they are ugly and have nothing to lose.

The few hotties like hotties in Underworld or something are l33t compared to their normal counterparts. Something about a naked chick with boots up to her ass that makes me drool

Here in Sacramento, there is a fine line ebtween being 'punk' and being a 'stoner'. I, myself, have been both.

In my eyes, punks are all about the music. The concerts, the sharing of CD's, skating, studded belts, wrist gear, the hair especially, etc. etc..

The stoners appear like the punks, but are too stupid/smoked theirselves stupid to truely enjoy punk.

Punk is a lifestyle, a religion if you will. Punk is anti-emo.

And no, Blink 182 is NOT punk anymore. They are pop-emo gay.
