Subwoofer Question
I'm looking to add a powered sub to my home stereo setup. Something in the $200-300 range. Any suggestions would be great. I'm looking for tight bass response (I listen to and spin 90% trance
) I just don't want my system to sound muddy, and I also don't want to spend a crapload.
This one caught my eye: Sony SA-WX700 10" 250 watt powered sub
Anyone heard this one in action? Could I do better?
What's your speaker situation? What are you using for monitors and loud speakers?
In this thread I made awhile ago DJ Chrono recommended the Dayton Loudspeaker Co. 10" Titanic Vance Subwoofer Kit
http://www.onhifi.com/product/dayton_titanicsub.htm
It costs 350 bucks and required some assemply but seems like a great deal. If I could afford spending that kind of money I would either get that or a new mixer.
PartsExpress sells the kit.
But I guess for a huundred dollars less the sony one you mention looks pretty good. People seem to like it over at AudioReview
For the 'tightest' bass that you are looking for, you're going to want to get a sealed enclosuer (no port). Unfortunately for you, in order to get quality, you're going to have to pay for it. That being said, theres a distinct possibility that you won't really notice a huge difference between say a $300 sub and an $800 sub. . .
Thanks for the responses guys. Scott- Ive got an Onkyo receiver and some decent bookshelf speakers. I just want to add some punch.
Looks like I can get the Sony for less than $200.....
By the sound of the reviews, it'll probably suit my needs nicely.
jbl pb12 its a 12" sub with 250 watt amp and crossover set up...it kicks fucking arse and its cheap...i have been beating on one for a year or so
I bought a Yamaha SW315 (270 Watt) from best buy for $350 (though Amazon has it for $299). Does the job and I'm pretty happy with it. I also agree with djtrinity .. I was looking into buying a JBL pb12 .. couldn't find one locally so ended up getting a Yamaha. I hear CERWIN VEGA subs are good too.
