Mauro Picotto - Lizard...

Just what the hell is so special about this track? Oakey it repeatedly in '99, and even 3 years later he spun it at Sonne Mond Sterne. Oh yeah... and the crowds LOVED it! What the hell? It's just a buncha beats and weird horns. Honestly, it sounds like the work of an amateur.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH, Oh my boy, my son....that tune is fuckin crazy, most of the remixes are spot on, I can't believe you don't like it, did you not hear the build up and break down...with the main melody.....geez. that gives me goose bumps

Posted by djeternal2004 on Apr-13-2004 20:40:

well music production has become much more complex these days ... advancing and all, so it may well sound amateurish in comparison to tracks today.

Whats wrong with spinning an oldie in a set ?.. i personally love it when a dj does .. ah brings back the memories. As long as they dont overdo it.

Lizard however is a great tune .. i wasnt really keen on any of the mixes except the RAF Mix.

the build is one of the biggest and best in trance music.

Great observation. How come we never realized that..

The only remix of it I liked was the Claxixx one. The original is just bass-beats all the way through, though I like the slow pause.

yeah because you are a TRANCEADDICT IN TRAINING
songs that most tits like are dj sammy - heaven
darude - snadstorm

Actually I hate Darude and DJ Sammy. But I mean come on, look at the other tracks in his, say, Gatecrasher '99 set;

Grace - Not Over Yet '99 (Breeder's It Is Now Remix)

A masterpiece. Yup.

Space Manoeuvres - Stage One (Tilt's Apollo 11 Remix)

One of the best tracks ever, IMO.

Then comes Mauro Picotto - Lizard... Bass-bass-bass-bass-bass-bass-bass-bass, then comes alittle treble, "Goin' to getcha...", bass-bass-bass...

Posted by mndeg on Apr-13-2004 20:59:

you cant compare a techno song to a trance song like that
GONA GETCHA DRUM ROLL DRUM ROLL DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO

Posted by Ory on Apr-13-2004 21:00:

Alright, name another techno track and compare, then.

Monkey Dancer 2 I Love that song!

I love that song that is totally Mauro's style. Its an extremly hypnotic groove, but at the same time hard and making you wanna dance your ass off. Mauro truely has a unique tech-trance style that I can't find with any other producers, and I truely admire him. (If you ever listen to "The Album" he produced every track on that CD, and they all kick ass, I recommend it highly)

I do like some of Mauro's other tracks, Pegasus for example, but Lizard is just weird. It's not that I hate it, but... bleh.

Posted by mndeg on Apr-13-2004 21:06:

when i heard it a few years ago when i was a di.fm noob i compared it to songs like l'esperanza and immediately deleted the song too
i was like wtf this song sux it just goes like DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO

Then I recommend you stay away from tracks like Alchemist, Codebreaker, Darkroom etc. It's stupid coming in and saying it's an ammateur track. It's clearly a track that appeals to many people's tastes, which you have observed and stated yourself in your first post; just not one that appeals to your own.

Cool

firstly, the production is nearly 5 years old...

secondly and most importantly, i heard haliwell play this last year @ promise and the crowd including myself went nuts when the melody just kicks in out of nowhere, great clubbing moment.

don't even try to disagree

Posted by Ory on Apr-13-2004 21:16:

Well, I've never heard it live... so :P

you're missing out

Posted by Ory on Apr-13-2004 21:22:

I know. :P But there's not much I can do about it since;

1. It's an almost 5-year-old track.

2. I'm not 18.

so what if you're not 18, myself and just about every other person i know was out clubbing when they were 15/16

It's trance that appeals to non-trance music lovers, hence it's huge success and the unlimited amount of plays it got off of tonnes of dj's..

It may not be to your sophisticated trance tastes, but it was a tune that was instantly recognisable when played and would get a reaction out of the less knowlegable music fans that were in a club at the time.

I'll be the first to admit now, it wasn't mauro's finest 8 minutes, but as a 13 year old hearing that tune for the first time, i was blown away.

I refuse to go to the cheesy hip-hop clubs we have around here.

your profile gives nothing away so i can't suggest anywhere for you to go, all i can say is talk to local TAs and go out with them, it's what i did, somewhat better than just local going out drinking, it really is another world out there
