Mauro Picotto - BEST IN WORLD!?!?!?!?

Upon hearing some of his personal tracks and listening to the liveset recorded at the Turntable Days Fest in Germany I am convinced that MP is the most skilled DJ in the world right now.

First of all his remix of Clocks is the best I have ever heard. Second of all he dips into every genre from trance to techno, house, and tribal, etc.
Third of all he plays all over the world and is even going to come to Minneapolis, MN (not exactly a culture area for that sort of thing).
Before hearing any of his stuff I was not even a fan of techno and he made me into one simply because he is an amazing producer and DJ.

Discuss! and make arguments for your opinion, don't just say "Pfft, No!"

Yeah, he was the one that got me into techno in the first place his producing skills is tremendous, And we shouldent even talk about his live performance

i wasn't that impressed with him at Two Tribes Sydney this year. Maybe because I missed the part where he dropped Lizard

komodo and back to cali rock.

but dj sammy is still #1

That my friend, is bullshit. There are tons of djs in his genre that are vastly more skilled technically than him. Luke Slater and Jeff Mills (when he can be arsed) off the top of my head.

he certainly isn't the most skilled dj in the world.

He is a good dj and plays from a very wide spectrum of music, his crowd interaction is great and imo he is the most original producer in the world..

I am the same as yourself, mauro got me into the techno scene, but once you realise what some other techno dj's can actually do with a set of decks and various other peices of equipment, i'm sure you would soon retract that statement.. however, Mauro is certainly one of the hardest working in terms of his tour schedule and he is probably the best at working a crowd

I think picotto is great and will always remain my favourite dj/producer even when he gives it up, but there are more skilled dj's by than him.

Picotto is still my favourite producer. His first album is an absolute classic, one of my most played CDs.

There are many many djs that are far more talented than Mauro Picotto. Chris Liebing, Carl Cox, Sven Vth and Dave Clarke just to name a few..

... and Umek

Posted by Quantized on Apr-14-2004 14:46:

yeh...mauro is the man. He also got me into techno as well...hes one of the few producers whos tracks were amazing years ago and his new ones are just as amazing even though there completley different.

komodo got me into this music. even though now when i listen to it, it sounds kinda stupid, but w/e, its old.

i'd like to see picotto at least once in my lifetime :/

Sven Vath isn't a technical dj either, but his track selections rock.

Best Technical DJ is Danny Tenaglia (john digweed, dave clarke rank up there as well)

zabiela?

Posted by nchs09 on Apr-14-2004 19:46:

picotto was the best imo a couple of years ago.. not anymore unfortunally.....
we must give him mad props for his work through out his life!!! he is brilliant!

Posted by denys envy on Apr-14-2004 19:49:

Well it's split about halfway.

I have livesets from Vath, Mills, and Digweed, and others mentioned above. But you really need to listen to the one from Picotto at Turntable Days Fest that I got. I think I got it off hottrance.com if any of you guys have an account there just get it from the downloads section otherwise i can always upload it to tranceaddict if someone shows me how to do it.

The mixing is just flawless and the remix of Manuchao - King of the Bongo, and Coldplay - Clocks are amazing and truly show his skill. Maybe he's not the best DJ but definitely producer I've never experienced anyone like him and I have a sh*tload of music to pick from.

mauro does rock, and technically hes really good with the decks, (but hes far from the level of Dave Clarke). Watching him is pretty amazing, and his style is so unique.
I say his style is better then his skills.

No way, best technical DJ is either Q-bert or DJ Craze.
