I understand the addiction, now.

I've been messing around with MixMeister Pro 5 for about two weeks, now. Before using that program, I had never been much into mixing, but I have used turntables in the past and understand the basics and some of the intermediate concepts. Anyway, though, that's not the point of this thread.

I got back from class on Monday, sat down in front of my computer, and decided that it was time to throw down a solid, quality set for a change. Close to four hours later, I was done with the mixing. After about an hour of "polishing" things, exporting the set to a few other programs, and converting it from .wma to a 192k .mp3, things were sounding really, really good. I used Nero, cut the tracks according to the cuts in MixMeister, and burned the whole thing to CD.

Listening to it, now, it's hard to believe that it turned out so well. In fact, I find it hard to believe that I did it all on my own. Me, a guy who isn't a professional DJ or anything like that, put out a quality mix. It's just a cool feeling to have accomplished something like that. I understand the addiction, now. I know what it is that DJs love so much about their work.

What does this mean to anyone here? Not much. Are some of you going to scoff at me? Probably. (I did put a lot of work into beatmixing, adjusting levels, etc. by the way.) I just wanted anyone who is intimidated by mixing to know that it is as challenging as you think... but damn, is it worth it the first time someone tells you that they enjoyed the final product.

Personally I've dabbled into some of the mixing programs and with some of my friends tables and the like...i understand the addiction completely and it is a rewarding feeling to finish a set and look back on it knowing you did those things....you made it.

but i havent gotten serious about DJing mainly because I like watching others mix... it's a facination of mine to see someone who is actually the shiznit do what I can't.....meanwhile, ill just dance my ass off

get your tables back, then play in front of 500+ people...then lemme know how addicting things get

You just inspired the hell out of me.. I have to force myself to sit down and mix.

I also have to get back into producing trakx again... man, there was nothing quite like the rush of finishing up a trak, listening to it, and reflecting on how proud you are of it. priceless!

I was hoping to motivate someone.

My eventual goal is to move into original production. I don't have the money or the know-how to do it right now, though. There are way too many programs. I need to do a lot more reading before I even try to get into it.

i'll tell you how addictive i find it in a very short statement. Got home from tonight, housemate came into my room asked me how i was, i said i was feeling a bit shitty, "i really dont want to do any mixing tonight, i have a headache and i'm tired, but i really feel the need to" i said as i double clicked on the little traktor icon on my desktop, lol

Sorry to piss on your chips but putting a mix together in mixmesiter pro 5 is not DJing. Get those TT's and / or CDJ's back and then come back with a set for us!

this was a good read as i'm getting a pair of SL1200's next week.

Ya mang, on teh decks is a bit different, same idea i geuss, but tend to be properly harder.

Yeah I know exactly how you feel, I'm not a DJ, I don't own any equipment. But I've used traktor to make a progressive breaks mix and it turned out so well I listened to it over and over for like a month heheh.

I can throw down on tables just the same... as I said in my original post. I'm just not a self-proclaimed DJ. No time for it. I just mess around when I can.

I would actually have had an easier time putting a set together on tables, come to think of it. It's not like you have to be a rocket scientist to understand how it works.

I'm hooked on mixing with traktor dj and atomix now Seriously, it's addicting and very rewarding, to me at least. I know what I like to listen, I make collect my own tracks, I mix them. It's easy, matter of fact, very easy. I've done a longer mix, 2x80 min, and I've been listening to it for the past 2 weeks. I pretty much can't live without music now, even my girlfriends hates it Heh, I got my friend in florida to start his own mixing, via computer programs of course. But it's a start. Now we swap mixes online, and we can barely wait for each other to finish another mix.

Anyways, yea there's no better feeling then hearing a finished product, not only with other people's reactions, but just proving to yourself that you can do it. Whether it's a single mix, an entire set, or a production.

Addiction it is.

sorry to burst your bubble but i have been using mixmeister for a little over a year now....ive gone from pro 4 to pro 5..and to tell you the truth...ITS THE EASIEST SOFTWARE OUT THERE THAT LETS YOU MIX AND ADD EFFECTS>>>i find trakto a little harder to get used to and use..

i finally bought myself some m3d's and i thought i was gonna be the shizznet....but i cant even beatmatch THAT good yet...practice makes perfect...like some have said here, get back to TT's and show us your set.!!
