"It is meant to be the glittering showcase for the world's greatest athletes. Instead, with time rapidly running out before the next Olympic Games, the new main stadium in Athens last week was the most chaotic building site in Greece with rubble, bricks and plastic pipes strewn in every direction.

One of the biggest problems is with the main stadium's giant domed roof, which if all goes to plan, will be built with 25,000 square metres of glass.

Financial problems are at the heart of the difficulties. The Greek government's budget for venues and infrastructure was originally €4.6 billion (Ł3.2 billlion) with a further €1.9 billion (Ł1.3 billion) allocated to Athoc. This summer the money ran out, forcing the government to take out a €1.5 billion (Ł1.07 billion) loan from the European investment bank."

Some clever dick on the news worked that out, to Ł50 per working tax payer. so when u go to work tomorrow, nice to know u havent worked for nothing.

it will be done in time!!! thats how the greeks are! they leave everything till last minute but they still get it done!!! i dont know why the whole world is making a big deal outta this stuff :P

and as far as the money stuff goes i dunno :P i didnt hear anything about it on the greek news! plus they knew all this was gonna cost they shoulda gave them more money to work with! not the uk but the ppl who put on and fix the olympics!

and i know that all this stuff is almost ready!! its actually U.S shit hole of A who is making this into a big deal!! they want something to go wrong just to prove that its not only them who get attacked and all this other stuff.. hey remember the bombing in the usa olympics in atlanta? if something happens im gonna blame usa because of what they have done :P NOT greece

it doesn't mean any more tax, just on average each member will pay Ł50 out of their current taxes towards this roof. taxes pay for allsorts, and seemingly a roof in this case, you don't lose Ł50.
