Anime Thread

Who else is in loves with Manga stuff. omg all the new Manga stuff are just intense!

Ninja Scroll - not new but bloody crazy haha, love how you see heads flyin in all directions lol... tho bloody Australian laws cancelled the full rated version and we aussies got the crap version with heaps of stuff cut out

AKIRA - nuff said, haha gotta love those damn bikes with 20000+ RPM, i think they ride a bike equivelent to the Suzuki Hayabusa in real life. I bet everyone already has seen this, even people who don't know what the hell anime is have seen this.

Spirted Away - I didn't even want to view this film cause people said it was a kids movie... haha how wrong they are. This movie is fuckin crazy and love how awesome the drawings are... the characters are not fictional but damn thats one crazy lineup of characters they have. Simply awesome stuff!!

X - Has anyone even seen this, the stores had a offer on for cheap so i picked this up. It's like Dark Manga that just gets more hectic as it goes on... the begining has alot of talkin and babbling which nearly puts you to sleep... well not really but wait till ya see the stuff in the end. It's like every single Manga put into one.. awesome stuff.

Blood - haha omg this movie is out of this world, this has to be the most craziest films ever... thought it's a bit short but damn haha... it's full of action and some shit you gotta see to believe. the drawings are in cell drawing yeh???? and the movie is bloody nuts, it's like Blade in Anime.

I dunno, there are many more..

what are your favs??

Posted by eRRaTiK on Apr-18-2004 15:05:

none of those are new dude.

my faves..

ninja scroll - ninja never looked so good.

ghost in the shell - futuristic and philosophical

the castle of cagliostro - classic thief meets girl caper. proves that minus all the gore, sex, violence.. you can still have a fun and entertaining story.

neon genesis evangelion - now this is crazy stuff

animatrix - the men behind the matrix trilogy got a bunch of legendary anime directors to direct individual episodes, and you'll be able to recognise their styles pretty quickly if you've seen any of their work.

mysterious cities of gold - not so much from the manga animation house, but the best animated series i have ever seen. saw it when i was in primary school and still remember it till this day. too bad the only dvd version of it is in french.

...

in my collection:

spirited away
wicked city

...

yet to see:

lain serial experiment

...

check out Anime Web Turnpike - great online Anime resource.

something about this movie, i got so emotionally involved i cried. and i dont usually cry cos im so masculine and strong and stuff...

errr so psyg mate, you say it's NOT fictional? rightio.

Posted by Psygnosis on Apr-18-2004 15:42:

Oh yeh oops hehe... i guess it IS fictional . It's both in some kind of way

Yeh Spirted Away was real emotional... and hilarious. I think i saw the movie a couple of times when i got it, definetly the coolest films in such a long time.

i just ordered Princess Mononoke, heard people give this great reviews as being on of the best Manga masterpieces. And also getting Porco Rosso, hahah this is one of the funniest animes ever made IMO, i think it was shown on SBS like 3-4 years ago, maybe longer but had only caught the last 15 minutes of it.. omg, laughed and laughed and laughed.

eRRatik, damn still gotta see Caste of Cagliostro, it's a preview in practically all Manga stuff but i dunno, something puts me off about the film, maybe the drawings.

haha damn how can i forget Ghost In The Shell, i think that was the first Anime i ever saw i think, those drawings are so neat and clear...

btw, where is Wings Of Honnaemise.. it was never released here?? never seen the movie but the reviews and previews look bloody awesome.

I don't mind a bit of manga, though I wouldn't really call myself a fan...

Spirited Away and Akira are both excellent films though

Posted by one.tjc on Apr-18-2004 23:46:

not really into manga either but have you seen the scene in kill bil [vol. 1]?? quite graphic!

Posted by djshan on Apr-18-2004 23:51:

do u mean xxx mangas?

Posted by [ groovypants ] on Apr-19-2004 00:15:

Manga = Comic / Graphic Novel
Anime = Japanese animation / cartoons

Yeah, I'm a anime/manga freak.

Guys, get ready for APPLESEED. A new si-fi movie [similar to GiTS] with a crazy soundtrack [Oakie, Basement Jaxx, DaftPunk and more, made tracks exclusively for the moviee]

Princess Mononoke is a masterpiece Psy! It thrashed Titantic in box office records in Japan and was the highest grossing movie ever until the same production company released Spirited Away.

Ninja Scroll = Movie is a classic, the TV series was a big let-down - the begining was great, but things got really sloppy after the first few episodes.
A live action Ninja Scroll movie is in the works.

X: The TV-series is brilliant - shit, talk about deep emotional stuff. The movie was quite bad though [although the animation quality and action scenes were top notch] - they tried to fit the whole series into 90minutes. Best to read the manga.

Ive got a few faves though in truth i havent watched any anime for a while now, so all mine are pretty old!

Ghost in the shell - awesome, awesome movie - nuff said.

Hellsing - A vampire flick with very cool animation and an awesome main charachter.... all round top anime!

Outlaw Star - A great series that i found to be really fun. Basically about space pirates.

Cowboy Bebop - Fucking awesome series. just the right mixture of blood and comedy!

Geneshaft - The best animation of any series ive seen, at times you forget your watching animation!! Unfortunately at last check only 3 episodes were dubbed into english and as i dont speak japanese. *shrugs*

Indeed. SDF Macross, the original japanese version of the Robotech Macross Saga is my favorite ever. It is also one of the most important and influential anime-series in terms of Western and mainstream exposure!

The key animator for that sequence was Maeda Mahiro, who also did The Second Renaissance (Part I & Part II) for Animatrix.

Animation Director was Kazuto Nakazawa. More info about his work here.

More about the Kill Bill animation sequence here.

..

lol @ how this is turning into an 80's cartoons thread.

but seeing as we're there... who remembers this?

Love

I've only recently been getting back into anime.. I've downloaded a few fansubs - Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne and Full Moon Wo Sagashite. both in the mahou shoujo style..so lots of young girls with magical powers and the like, hahah.
I'm loving Kodomo No Omocha (Kodocha/Child's Toy) at the moment. one very zany and hyperactive romantic comedy

NGE is the all time favourite. absolutely brilliant stuff..never fails to get me all emotional, hah. damn good theme song as well

I also used to read manga (specifically Peach Girl), but I don't these days..

it's at the local Video Ezy in Katoomba (of all places...)
well, it was there about a year ago.

I remember seeing ninja scroll ages ago - shocked the shit out of me. Was the first anime I'd seen.

Anyway, has anyone else seen the new episode of southpark where they do it as half normal half ninja anime? Funniest one I've ever seen. When butters cops the ninja star

actually did a film study of one at school.

'Ghost In The Shell'

anime addictions

I'm not a huuuuuge anime fan....the action type does nuthin for me really, but I do like the kind that makes u think....eg. Serial Experiments Laine...really awesome series - totally sucked me in and played with my head......

But, of the anime I've seen, the movie I recommend the most is Grave Of The Fireflies, directed by Isao Takahata.....omg....totally blew me away....tis the story of a boy and his lil sister left alone after an attack on Japan during WWII....beautiful, simple animation, and a story that packs a powerful emotional punch.......see it if u get the chance
