Armin van Buuren's downfall
I figured a bash Armin-thread was in order, just to even out the score. Since PvD and Tiesto have had their share for a while, the next one should be Armin, target of TA worship en masse as he is.
Personally I find it sad to see that Armin has ditched his experimentalism and knack for mixing genres, just cos all the muppets in #armind start bawling their eyes out the minute Armin plays something that isn't their usual boring piece of ASOT drivel like Burned With Desire. Thus, we go from edgy and punchy sets like these..

And don't get me started on his productions. Burned With Desire, Mushroom Therapy (AvB Mix) and From The Heart is pure stale garbage, lightyears away from stuff like Alibi - Eternity, Aria - Dido (AvB Mix) and Fuel To Fire - Fuel To Fire (Armin's Drumarama Dub).
(Yes I'm bored at work
)
I'm with you on ALL points except that you call Prog. boring, How dare you!?

Plus he played a lot better prog tunes earlier. Remy & Roland Klinkenberg - Till Ya Drop (Electronic Elements) and Sander van Doorn - Punk'd (Spinnin) are pretty damn good though.
Will you please don't use my name in that way...I don't like that

his recent ASOT sucked ass
wtf is up with this industry
his last great remix IMO was ayu-appears(avb remix)

Sorry, have to disagree. His recent 5 hour set her in SF was incredible and it was unique for him in at a US gig as he had no opener...he was on the decks when the room opened. He started with melodic prog (ie. His frist track - Deepsky - Talk Like a Stanger (Markus Shulz....remix) and worked it up to beautiful trance. Listen to ASOT 143, which is a couple hours of the set he played here that night (April 2).
It's beautiful!!!!!

I took time to dable in the past of trance and listened to aria-dido armins mix and Good Lord its fricking amazing
looking from past to now the only artists who have kept up or improved production qaulity are the almighty Solar Stone, Fire & Ice, and maybe Solid Globe...
Armin's prog-taste is very good, but trance... cheese
There still are some good trance tunes, but the majority is just boring.
And yes his old productions are sooo much better than his new ones.

| Originally posted by sandstorm03 did armin manage to play 5 hours of fluffy trance, with some fluffy prog? Because thats what he did in nyc...And people fled out @ about 4:30. Like 2-3 hours into his set. Armin is good for about 2 hours, then gets boring. |
i started to notice ages ago when all his remixes started sounding the same in 2002. such a shame.

i think it is not only the djs fault..trance is missing something these days..i do not get the same feeling i got out of trance 2 or 3 years ago..it doesnt touch me in the same wayi used to feel like i am in another world when listenen to trance..now i just bop my head n move around but the rush i used to get out of it is gone..
