with running a bunch of hardware synths
What would be the best and cheepest route?
If I ran them through an analouge mixer with shitty effects it would suck, right?
So am I better buying a audio interface with mulitple inputs or a digital mixer?
perhaps multiple inputs on your pc? then you can mix it all in your computer
yes, running it through a crappy mixer would be a bad idea. But if you can get your hands on a good mixer, it wouldn't be.
A lot of pros run all of their synths (VSTi and hard) though their mixers to color their sound.. almost like a DSP would. Filo and Peri do this, for example, to "get their sound."
But if this isn't an option due to money constraints, one of the M-Audio Deltas should do nicely. They have a good amount of inputs (excluding the Audiophile) and won't add anything to the sound.
A digital mixer would be a great idea, but those are expensive.. So you should compare some cards and some mixers, and the reviews of both... one question how many synths do you currently have, or planning to own?
Well, I have a Jp8080 & K station and a mate of mine is bringing his emu sampler and nord lead to work on some tracks at mine, since he has no room at his anyway.
One thing I want to know is if these digital mixers will be able to take the phono input of these synths????
Also, doesnt anyone know a affordable multi-input interface?
All you need to input the phono outs is converter cables, probably being Y-cables that go from 2 mono phono plugs to a stereo 1/4" TRS jack.
All I know of audio interfaces are MOTU interfaces. They're great, run on firewire and do a great job. EMagic also makes audio interfaces, for the logic user, but any1 can use em.
You can't go past the 01x for a complete home studio solution. Since getting it I've never looked back.
