EQing & Panning

When you guys are in the final stages of writing a tune, do you EQ each track before you set the L/R pan? or vice versa? or do you mix it up as you go along?

The reason I ask, is that when I move a track to the left or the right, it can become clearer in the mix. The same thing can happen when I adjust the EQ.

So I was just curious if one should be done before the other.

Well, In FL i think it pans, then eqs.. but I dont think it really matters??? dunno, Panning gives the mix more stereo space, EQing a track cleans the mix so the frequencies arent a mess..

When you pan anything, if the rest of the mix is still centered, or even with different pans at different time-spans, it's always gonna sound clearere, b/c you're articulating it to someplace else in the stereo spectrum besides the center. EQing b4 or after panning is very much the same either way. Stereo spectrum is not directly related tothe frequency spectrum.

Adjusting EQ is how you speerate the instruments and sounds from eachother so there's articulated clarity between them. STereo Imaging is another way of doing this without EQing, but don't overuse it or you'll distract from the mix's focal point's.

Hey thanks!! The helps out quite a bit. But what I would also like to know, since adjusting both spectrum increases clarity of seperate tracks, which would you adjust first? EQ or panning? or does it not really matter? thanks a lot!
