Diana Krall's detractors have often criticized the Canadian jazz-pop superstar’s icy demeanor, calling Krall aloof or, worse still, snooty. Proving she’s still a woman of the people, the internationally-beloved singer has announced a free concert that will be performed in the most common of venues — a train station.

Krall will hold a free public concert on Wednesday April 28 at Toronto’s Union Station. The show will take place in Union Station’s Great Hall, beginning at 2 p.m. Krall, who will be accompanied by her quartet, will play a total of four songs.

Krall isn’t the only adult-contempo Canadian star who’ll be on hand at Union Station that day. Jann Arden will serve as the event’s host. After Krall’s set, Arden will conduct a short question and answer period.

Of course, the question on everyone’s lips (and if by "everyone" you mean "select members of the ChartAttack staff") is "Will Elvis Costello be there?" Well, we’ve taken the liberty to check out Krall’s husband’s touring schedule and he doesn’t seem to be booked on April 28, but he has a few European dates starting on the 30th.

The free show is designed to promote Krall’s new album, The Girl In The Other Room. Unlike most of Krall’s other material, the new album isn’t a collection of jazz standards. Rather, Krall takes on some slightly more eclectic material, including Tom Waits’ "Temptation," Joni Mitchell’s "Black Crow" and Costello’s "Almost Blue." Krall and Costello also co-wrote a half-dozen original songs for the album. The Girl In The Other Room hits stores on April 27.

she's been criticized by the "purists"...but I really like her style...I own her Live in Paris DVD...nice to see her doing more original stuff though.
