How to make your Technics faster

ok, I posted this in a different thread ("."), but I thought it would be of interest for more people...

here it is. understand that i can take NO responsibilty for any problems. But I can tell you that I know many friends who have done this and didn't have any probs.

*Turn the Techs off. CAREFULLY remove the platter, lifting it straight up, so you don't damage the magnets.

*Remove the 5 screws in the plastic cover under the platter and remove the cover.

*In the top right corner, there is a small light blue knob, it says "pitch" above it. CAREFULLY turn this switch clockwise till it stops. For me this is at a position between 3 and 4 o'clock.

*Re-assemble the techs.

DONE!

this can be done in about 5 minutes, I have even done this at a rave while playing !

The only problem you will encounter is that the pitch slide remains the same length while giving a greater range...so it will be pretty sensitive when you start. So there might be some getting used to it till your beatmatching is back on track.

before you twits do this at least get a multimeter and measure the current through that knob so you can put it back to its correct calibration.

secondly - if i remember correctly doesnt this cause the lower levels (0.1-2% pitch) to be much higher. as in it goes from 2% pitch at 0.1% setting to 0% at 0 setting (extreme example)?

Posted by djdawn on Aug-28-2001 15:23:

that's part of what i meant when I said:"the pitch slide remains the same length while giving a greater range...so it will be pretty sensitive "
there already is a "gap" where you cannot adjust the pitch between the "lock" position at o% and the first +/- postition next to it. This gap becomes bigger because the pitch range is so much bigger.

But it shouldn't be a problem. When I have to set the pitch in that range in order to match the bpm, I just speed up or slow down the other record till they match. Your example is a bit extreme.

And why would I want to put it back to it's "correct" calibration???

warrenty on 1982 TT ??

i think its expired !

Posted by Zain on Dec-25-2002 07:37:

my brake is faked up, but i think i fixed it...

i like my techs the way they are, but this is good to know anyway. if anything i would turn the knob the other way, so the slider has less sensitivity. but, i've gotten pretty used to mixing with it like this already, so it's all good.

besides, my techs are brand new, i think i will at least wait till the warranty expires till i fuck with em.

you do NOT have to break any seals in order to do this and it's reversible, too. Why would that void my warrenty if I still had one?

Posted by Zain on Dec-25-2002 18:57:

ya i am pretty sure no one would ever find out about it. Its a pretty simple procedure. Hey dawn, what is the pitch around once you tweak it to the end?

Posted by Devbert on Dec-25-2002 20:09:

Why do they need them to be that fast unless your trying to mix progressive house with uplifting trance and you need to move the pitch slider to that great a degree?

Cool

nice 1 djdawn, thanks for sharing your wisdom with the ta's i will definately be having a go when my warranty is over, but until then i wll have to play trance at normal non-pvd speeds lol

how does this help?

If you mix fast music, sometimes you get rare tracks that are great, but incredibly slow. Adds more possibilities to what you can with your mixing skills ie what you can mix with what.

Hey, I think ill keep my pitch the same on my pdx a1's; already at +/- 12
