Whats your dream Mixer??

I've always wanted either a Pioneer DJM600 or a Rane mixer...

im finally going to get my Pioneer next month..

so whats yourZ??

Numark EM-460

I don't know how the Numark EM-460 is compared (mostly quality-wise) to Rane and Pioneer and all of those, but it's pretty damn cool. here we go...

It has got 9 inputs (3 phono or aux, 4 line, 2 mic) and 4 channels. On each channel (and the master) it has the pretty much standard bass, mid, treble, and pan knobs. It has a crossfader that you can set for any of the 4 channels or just turn it off. Now we get to the cool part: it has a "Kaoss Pad" which is a 3" by 4" XY effects pad that you put your finger on and move around. You can select which channels and how much of the effect you want applied, and you can set the pad on "hold" to hold the setting you want. You can listen to the effects through the headphones too, before you play them in the mian mix. There are 6 buttons that you can assign to your favorite effects. You can also just turn the effects off. It has 60 effects (10 of each type: filter, modulation, reverb, echo, sfx, and sampler). The sampler can hold about 10 seconds, and there are a few effects that sound a lot like real . Hmm, what else, theres a "fader start" feature for compadible Numark CD decks, where the CD automatically starts and stops depending on where the fader is. There is XLR out for left and right channels, 2 adjustable RCA "zone" outputs, and a RCA recording output. There's also a standard heaphone out with a volume knob, "cue/mix" knob, and a "blend/split" knob. theres a jack for a 12 volt light and gooseneck microphone (XLR or 1/4 inch)...anything else? probably. but i can't remember. Oh yeah, MIDI output (the effects pad sends out pitch bend and modulation signals through MIDI).

DATEQ

I use the Dateq lpm 7.3 It's a great mixer (used on parties like Sensation 2000 and Trance Energy) and you can use it for everything (you can attach 7 mics, 3 turntables and 11 line devices). I use this one, and i won't use anything else now. Al faders and equalizers are VCA controlled, this means that a DC voltage is put on the faders, and not the audio signal. this means that very old faders still produce a noisefree sound. if you want to see more about it, check Dateq's site Greetz Maarten

The Ecler SCLAT 100-8 is also an awesome mixer!

I like the Allen & Heath Xone 32.

And the Vestax PMC 15 Mk2 looks really good. It has everything where I want it. But I don't know anything about the quality/sound.


But the best one I don't remember the name. There was a thread about it a couple of months back. Someone posted a link to a review. It was HUGE mixer, silver or chrome and looked BAD-ASS! The review said that every club-owner who heard it said this was the best-sounding mixer they ever heard. I don't remember if it was digital or not, but I think so. Had an effect section, too. Anyone remember this one?

The Vestax PMC-15mk2 is pure crap!
It looks cool, but feels plastiky and cheap and its sound is very poor quality.. it's also not durable at all.

lots of people don't like it but i really wouldn't want anything else then my Gemini PS626 Pro2
its rather small but it has 2 channels... wich is enough for my "headquarters" => have 2 turntables, one mini disc & one computer hooked up to it... it also has 3 outputs... 1 for my main one for my booth and one for recording purposes(again the minidisc or pc)
and it has all the gains & cuts i need...
maybe 1 extra channel would be handy cuz sometimes i hook up a cd player... but that's only on rare occations so... my gemini rules!


ps of course u need a bigger one in a club... in clubs i prefer the rodecs

I am an audio engineer and DJ by trade, and I know this is going to sound quite fucked to anyone who knows anything about sound quality, signal to noise ratios, noise floors of equipment, frequency response ect, but I do agree slightly with whitefuzz. even though, The quality of gemini equipment is shit. period. but I have, for some unknown reason had soooooo much fun on that mixer and made some of my best mix tapes on it. I don't know if it's got something to do with the ultra straight forward layout or simple design but It is just fun to use! (I also like the mini x fader for the h/phone cue which is not seen on mixers often enough!!)
As for these people who are going on about the Urei and rane mixers (forget the model no.s but i believe they're both rotary) have you actually ever had the misfortune of mixing on either?!?
Fair enough, both of them are decent quality (urei is better), but I Hate and I mean loath rotary mixers. The urei is no longer in production and if you have one and it breaks, kiss it goodbye!!!
The rane is SERIOUSLY over priced ($1800 without an EQ/freq iso unit) for what it is. And great, these big 7 line, 5 deck, multi selectable mixers are soooo cool. !Bullshit!.
Clubs have multiple input mixers simply because they have to have the ability to be flexible in all situations. only about 10% of so-called "pro DJ's" can EQ, in the true sense of the word.
The best advice, is to find a mixer that you love to actually USE (not to jerk off over the spec sheet of it) and this means going to DJ equip centres and trying them yourself.
As for vestax mixers, they are high quality but do wear out a bit fast
(not the case with gold coloured range/high end mixers though)
Mixers with effects units built in should also be avoided, because at this level (not $500,000 mackie or neve consoles) the built in effects units will NEVER be as good or work as well or have as many options for setup and perameters as separate high quality mixer and separate effects unit.
Sorry if this sounds like a sermon, but being a trained and qualified professional in this field makes you realise (as some people on this site allready have and some still have to) that many magazines and equipment manufacturers (sometimes working together) feed us absolute shit for simple commercial gain.Don't be a sucker and buy it.

DJ Dawn, U think the PMC 15 MK2 is nice? naww..its nothing great. Its a rack mount,and I cant fit my fingers in between the EQ knobs. There is no effect out(if u want that)

but whoever said it was a POS is wrong, the thing takes a beating and still works, the Xfader need constant(every 4 months) replacing, but hey, use it 4 hours 3 nites a week, then throw it back in a road case into the back of a truck , and everything takes a beating. One thing, im not a fan of the power cords...If u break yours, unless u got a new mixer, good luck finding a cord....

MY STATEMENTS ABOUT MIXERS

Greetingz To DJ's All Over The World....here's what I have to say

Numark: looks fancy...wears out very fast !!! (I have the DM2002X and the channels are static like mad sometimes, also the fader doesn't fade that good anymore..and I HAVE USED IT LESS THAN A YEAR !!!)

Pioneer: QUALITY !!! But F*** Me...look at the prices on those things!

Vestax: Never spun or used...the sound is probobly good, but somebody said that it wears out fast...so that's def. a bad quality !!!

Allen & Health: *DROOL* !!! Look at that big one forgut the model...Groovetech Radio in London uses it, sounds very proffesional, and deffinetly worth the money !!!

Gemini: No Comment...I think they are worth than Numark, but it is sorta reliable.

Rane: (the once with no fader) good for trance...and that's probobly it.

That's all i can say...THE FOLLOWING HAVE BEEN MY OPPINION AND OPPINIONS OF DIFFERENT DJ'S WORLD WIDE, IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS...please make it quick

thanks guys for clearing thinngs up about this one...

As I said, I didn't know anything about the quality of this thing and didn't consider buying it. But I like the set-up. The placement of faders, crossfaders and stuff is just the way I would build it.
Now, j_spot I don't know if you have very thick fingers , but I can see how it sucks if you can't get them between the eq knobs. That's what I hate about the (in Germany) oh-so-popular Rodec 180. When I play with the bass eq, I turn on/off the PFL switch cause it is so small there
NEway, I'm not considering buying a mixer soon. I'm very satisfied with my KME DJM 1. It's my third mixer and I still can't believe how durable the crossfader is. With my other mixers (one was Ecler), I had to replace the X-Fader every 6 months or so. Now I have the KME for over 4 years and it's still perfect

Guys, just to set it straight, Pioneer are not so great.(it ryhmes so it must be true....)I have a friend that asked me to go out and buy him a DJM600 with his money. I advised him against it (it was not available everywhere then it was so new) and told him to wait and see what people who had used it (myself included) said about it. He wouldn't, so we went out and bought one. Looked nice, felt O.K. (a mixer this much should feel fucking orgasmic), had fx, blah ,blah,blah. I ended mastering it (he still hasn't 18 months down the road) and found the fx to be limeted (prefer separate outboard fx) and on large sound systems the mixer has a noticable delay (not good for this price). four months along (carefull and seldom used) the headphone cue pan develops a crackle (which can't be replaced or fixed easily) and the main faders section has to be replaced 2 moths later. IF you want my opinion, but your mixer from a company that specialises in DJ/High end audio only.
MY OPINION GOES LIKE THIS:
Allen & Heath - the full lick, in terms of dj mixers it don't get much better than this. Good build,great sound, solid, great feel, good layout,great eq's etc. but expensive.
Vestax - Good quality (apart from x-faders but get the dealer to throw in a spare one if not two), good sound to noise ratio, good build, great eq's/ kills, decent layout, nice face panels (replaceable). I wouldn't use the pmc115mk2 (I used to own one) unless you're a mobile jock (unlucky!! heheheheh) for trance/ house go for the PMC170a or 270. It has niiiiice looooong faders and sensible layoout with eq's and kills!!!
vestax are still slightly expensive.
Numark - havn't had much dealing with but gather that theyre ok for the mula.
Kam - same as above but better value for money.
Behringer - decent but don't bother (unless youre a mobile jock and need 7 channels) vestax or even allen and heath area better bet to save up for.
citronic - not so great qualtity but do try hard with the functions. O.K for the money
Gemini - not the best sounding (still O.K), but good functions,good layout and great value.(the best choice for those on a budget)

hi..do u need the crossfader curve adjust?? do u scratch?? if not go for the pioneer djm 500...exactly the same but without the curve adjust..is one of the best mixers ive used!! although the pmc 270 is sweet as too..

This is the mixer they use at Slinky, and I've never heard a bad word about Allen & Heath.

the pictured xone 62 is about 1170 $ and the xone 32 is around 800$.

still no change of mind...

I've read all your dreammixers, and I am still glad with my own mixer. It just works, always. And, i think this is a good mixer for a normal price with great specs...

umm...is that in American $$ or what...because the Pioneer im getting retail price is like $1499......but they sell for about $1000-$1299
