Computer Problem

I have an enourmous computer problem. Im running windows xp[dont flame me for that] and the other day i went to turn my computer on, here came the login screen. logged in and then wham. just my wallpaper nothing else no bars, icons, task manager dosnet work. i tried safe mode but that dosnet work either. i need help

o and btw, im on a diffrent comp.

Neither does what you just said But the same goes for what i'm saying right now. People enjoying pointing these things out, and it kinda pisses me off cause it's like "wow, great, tnx man, it doesn't apply, tnx forum copper".. heh, i don't mean offense, just saying..

i dont think so, my virus software sucks so al it does is point out that i have a virus but dosnet offer me a choice to quarentine it or delete it, a couple of days leading up the the crash i kept on getting a notice that i had some virus that was imbedded in some 'freelink' file. i couldnt find it and then wham my system wont work anymore.


im gonna try to flush the bios, does anyone know how to get into the bios on xp

fdisk is a great virus removal tool

yeah but the problem is i cant get into my computer, its just wallpaper, i can right click but nothing comes up, i have a mouse cursor, no tool bars or icons

fdisk is a dos based program

I was just joking, fdisk is an old utility that is part of dos, that is used to format and partition the drive. It would remove the virus and everything else on your drive.

you'd have to boot your xp disk and choose the repair option and then format it from there, but like said everything is lost.

when you get your system back up you should make sure to get a real virus detection program.

yeah, i only know computers to an extent, anyways, im desperate at this point. if im in the dos command prompt, what are the commands or any directions into how i do it.

type 'fdisk' and press enter

sounds like ur running it from the command prompt within window (thats not the same as dos)

download dos for windows 95/98 or use the installation cd that came with your computer.

reboot use fdisk for dos or cd menu

google fdisk if you want more specific info

i am releasing control of your computer...now
