Shame / Disagreement Ok you Guvernmetn freaks, is the club getting too Progressive or what?

It just seems that Mark used to spin some awesome trance, and now its all progressive. Don't get me wrong progressive is cool, but I want to hear more TRANCE!. Mark used to drop killer trance sets at "Meow" last year and at Guv. as well. Now however, I see my self only going for special events (Kimball, Picotto, Scott Bond, etc.) BTW CAN'T FUCKEN WAIT TILL TIESTO!!!

Posted by mute79 on Aug-30-2001 16:53:

man, i feel exactly the same way... i used to be a guv regular a year ago, but since new years, mark has gone really progressive... i've been goin to special events too, cuz i really cant stand listenin to progressive the whole night... but remember scott bond? holy shit, he kicked ass!!!

Posted by cdn_trance_boy on Aug-30-2001 17:15:

Hello! The Guv !!!!

Living in London I haven't been able to get out there much this summer but the few times I have gone I have noticed Mark Oliver spinning too much progressive for my taste.....I still have a good time but I prefer to go when it's a special event like SCOTT BOND that was a great night as was Guy Ornadel who was even better then BOND.....

C-ya on SUN night for Summers END

I agree, Mark Oliver plays a bit too much progressive for my liking, who knows what happened to him, maybe on too much drugs or something.....but special events there kick ass....Scott Bond and Kimball Collins were amazing there!!

Posted by sooper on Aug-30-2001 22:33:

AGREED. guy ornadel and scott bond...UNREAL! i had a blast.

mark oliver needs a glowstick shoved up his ass, as a friendly reminder to play more trance.

BUT...if that's what he's diggin these days, not much we can do...

I'll write a letter to somebody important and get the ball rollin on building another SUPER CLUB in Toronto that's strictly trance.
Topless rule will be in effect for all hot chicks and a shirtless gino ban too. Breast implants will be available at the bar. I'm pretty sure i can get the property of this new club recognized as Dutch soil, in the spirit of Amsterdam...so we'll be able to blaze away. Not that we don't already in GUV...

Does anybody else have any recommendations for me to include in my letter?

Thanks for letting me talk out of my ass.
SOOP.

Damn I missed Guy Ornadel following the Kimball Collins weekend and if you guys say that he was better than Bond, than I can't forgive myself. I absolutely loved Bond, makes me want to move down to Sheffield so I can be a regular If only Guv. could become more like Gatecrasher, oh well one can dream

Evil1

Yeah, i've noticed it alot lately too!... And i'm now doin the same thing that TranceXtasy is doin, by only goin for the special events. I don't know, Toronto seems to be gettin alot more busy, so there's more events and things to go to other then the Guv every weekend now.

im a weirdo

LOL!!! WOW!!!
i think Mark is doing just fine, i love his sets at SPIN!
Its funny how i feel all of the guests theyve had recently Bond/Ornadel/Collins have all SUCKED!!!
except for WHITE!
cant wait for Seamen/Tong/PVD!
woooooo!

Shame / Disagreement

OK I don't mean to put down Mark Oliver, but look at his last set he played on www.1groove.com

1: Mark Oliver: August 28, 2001 Title Artist Label
Crystal New Order Ffrr
Hedgehog Paul Nord Maelstrom
N/a N/a N/a
I Like To Ride (The Rhythm) Shade Junior
Casualty James Harcourt Release
Digital Origin Array Stellar
Never Need To Worry Infrared Sunrise
N/a N/a N/a
N/a N/a N/a
Oko Tek Luminous Bedrock
Close Hamel Sunkissed
Twisted Pappa & Gilbey Inversus
Papua New Guinea FSOL Jumpin' & Pumpin'
The Shadow Redback Sunkissed
Voices Saeed & Palash Bedrock
Strings Of Life Plank 15 Rip
N/a N/a N/a
Frostreet Gruvhaus Fugu
N/a N/a N/a
Breathe Science Dept. Renaissance
Drop Some Drums [Love Tattoo] Hussle
First Private Taste Automatic

Everything in this fucking set is progressive, I like a lot of progressive stuff as of late, but it just does not do it for me on the dancefloor. Mark needs to wake up and play more epic/melodic stuff!

P.S. I think the sugestion to shove a glowstick up his as might work! LOL! Who's up for it? (j/k)

Posted by Walter Mindz on Sep-05-2001 00:27:

Yeah, but he always plays stuff like that on his show, so that's nothing really new... and it doesn't do it for me either!

Posted by PVDrules on Sep-06-2001 05:59:

umm I heard tiesto cancelled, and van buren is coming instead, dont know if this is true or not

Posted by Walter Mindz on Sep-06-2001 18:13:

It's probably just rumors.

I agree, I find I only enjoy good prog dj's, not prog music. Max Graham is a fucking master of prog. I'm sorry, but Mark is no Maxie.

I'm waiting for a anti-trance backlash. You know how Trance is kinda cliche and faddy now, well it'll be back baby! haha Trance will never die. hahah shit

Ahhhh.........Mark is ok ......he's just got a serious problem of playing shit out......like Star 69, and Joy Energizer <----If you've seen him one too many times, you know what I'm talking about....
Last winter he was playing some pretty kickass sets and then they just seemed repetative and no new tracks......but he's getting better
and now that there's been a lot of big events, he should have something up his sleve for the time being.......

The guy plays pretty much every saturday, and they're looong sets, so you'd have to expect some repetativeness in his sets. Only so much new vinyl can come out each week. (And that doesn't mean it's all good either)

Not arguing, just making note of the circumstances.
