I think he's funny purely from an entertainment point of view...I'm not sure how they can replace him...but he's really annoying most of the time and talks a lot of crap about everyone who is not Canadian...meh I don't really care if he stays of goes...

Although I would love to see him and Ron McLain go at it for once cause they are always arguing...

But to be honest - for me - the best part of Hockey Night in Canada is watching Don Cherry.

I'm Russian and a big hockey fan. As much as he hates "Panikohousky" and the rest of the russian clan, I admit I still do enjoy watching the guy. He's an entertainer, pure and simple! CBC's ratings will suffer a big blow if they cut the guy

he hates anyone who is not Canadian...but I had a really good laugh when he started a 100% Canadian OHL team with the Ice Dogs and they were dead last

They are doing better now as far as i understand but he doesn't own the team any more.

face it, love him or hate him, the guy knows hockey, and loves to point out good plays. Who cares that he says inflamatory stuff..it makes him better.

Big mistake for CBC to let go of Cherry. I think they are doing this because the majority of CBC watchers are in the older age bracket and most likely the ones who were offended by his off the wall comments. Without Cherry, i know i wont be sticking around for the first intermission. Im sure TSN or RSN will pick up Cherry in a heartbeat for instant boosts in ratings. Cherry is to hockey as Stern was to radio. Love him or hate him, youre likely to not flip the channel JUST to see what controversy he may start. Coincedently, both Cherry and Stern get the boot the same year (im blaming both on Janets nipple)

Honestly Cherry has gotten to be annoying over the last couple of years. Initially he was entertaining and had some good and valid points about the game but now he's just deteriorated into a non-Canadian hating, loud mouth, macho jackass. His disregard for non-Canadian players is such a non-Canadian attitude and his constant attacks have become nothing more than jaded personal opinion from an old bitter man. I'm glad they're getting rid of him. More hotstove? God I hope not. My solution....Ron and Dougie.

Cherry is old school...and borders on bigotry...he's rough around the edges and needs to chill out a bit with his personal opinions...but he's a great hockey mind, is entertaining to watch, and is an institution in Canadian Hockey.

Remember when Cherry refered to French Canadian and European players as the ones wearing visors vs. other Canadians and Americans. Well...a journalist actually looked at the stats for the leaugue...DON CHERRY WAS RIGHT. Did he know ahead of time he was right though? Probably not, lol.

I laugh every time people get upset and think he should be removed from television...get your priorities straight people, lol...He's harmless...and there are far more "dangerous" people in the media that ought to be dealt with...the Bill O'Reillys and Stockwell Days of the world, for example.

cmon, kelly hrudey was a goalie his whole life, all he ever did was watch hockey.. he's the man.

and yes, CBC will lose viewers during intermission BUT cbc's play-by-play and commentary will keep users tuned onto them during the game

I'd rather have some Canadian character (since we're always ridiculed of being a stick-in-the-mud) than watch some smiley-family-friendly-automiton in my face....BOOOOOOOOORING....

In fact I know I'd be flipping stations or walk off if Cherry leaves.
