You scared about this too?

I'm getting really worried about the effect of all these pictures of abuse in Iraq.

Just the effect it'll have on firstly the Iraqis but also perhaps more importantly the wider arab opinion. Check out this aljazeera story >>>LINK<<<.

Obviously there is no truth in it but that the kinda stuff the average arab is gonna be thinking. I mean this situation is getting seriously scary.

Italians can give small doses. We talked about this in another thread. I can't post real gruesome tortue or I'd get banned. Tortue depends on the amount of control the government/faction/society has over the jailers or the lack of it. The US is not really that bad compared to other countries, particularly the Arab countries themselves. Let aljazeera tell about prisons in say, Iran or Egypt or Libya.

Report 100 % true, just ask Canadian activist/reporter Jaggi Singh who tortured there for no reason when he went to go investigate

I know the isralis toture people systimaticly. But the americans wouldn't SYSTEMATICLY torture people that would just be a form of suicide.

This article really seems to be about Isreal. It describes the hooding of prisoners by Americans, for the purpose of demoralization, and then proceeds to describe Isreali methods of torture. It implies that these same techniques are used by Americans without providing any evidence to back it up.

I really hope that the arab world doesn't buy in to this kind of propaganda. It is obvious that the American troops involved in this scandal messed up pretty bad, and deserve to be punished. I just hope that people realize that this represents a small part of our military, not all of it.

By the way, I am neither pro-military, nor pro-Bush.

Peace

You are correct.

Maybe not that bad but bad enough. Personaly if the people who took over my country on the pretex of liberating it ended up torturing me, even if it was a smalčl fraction of them i would be werry pissed.

The point I'm trying to make is that if the wider arab view is that the Americans are systematicly torturing people (incorrect as it may be) as it says in the article. In other words it's a problem of perception more than anything.

Arabs imprisoning and perhaps torturing other arabs is one thing, the big bad American oppressor doing the same is another intirely.

Then what is that going to do? It'll change what are currently moderate arabs i.e. the majority to a more extremist view. This could result in an exponential growth in terrorism recuits.

I agree for the most part. This whole situation makes America look pretty bad and hypocritical. But I don't know how it will affect moderate Arabs. Part of me believes that those that switch over to a more extremist view of the US would have found some reason or another eventually to do so anyways; even without the "torture" accusations. I mean, America's every move is put under a microscope by much of the world, and analyzed, most of the time in a negative light.

I'm sure we'll see increased hatred towards the American government and military, thanks to this situation. But an exponential increase in terrorist recruits? I doubt it.

peace
