Review: Misja Helsloot @ Glam Boutique

mmmmmmmmmmmmmm...trance. Rosati was spinning some fun stuff to open...nice opening set that got people going. Misja came on late, but was worth the wait...DAMN HAVING TO WORK TOMORROW...having to leave this early was not cool!

Misja's flow and range seemed a bit off at times...it went from some crazy intense track to something really chill right after...then immediately back to craziness. A bit more buildup in the set would be good, but his track selection was great...yum...that was some good stuff. Definitely one of the best trance DJs I've heard live...he didn't need to pull out a bunch of big hits...it was just a solid set of good trance

Glam Boutique isn't quite "glam", lol...but what a cool space for a party! I hadn't been there for about 5 years, back when it was still it was the old Tropicana, which was basically a ghetto square room...it's been quite the progression since then and a really nice change from big venues with huge crowds like Guv and KH. The small, intimate space is great for a party...good sound and lighting (even lasers, lol)...nice good crowd too (especially for a thursday night!)...staff was cool, security was chill...all in all, a very nice setup and well organized. I'd *love* to see more nights like this at Glam...BIG THUMBS UP!

Wow! I'm so glad I went. I had wicked time, first time checking out "Glam". Misja's set was just awesome, I know what you mean by his set being all over but the trance he pounded out was still awesome, better even than some of the regular djs we see here all the time. I had a blast, I'm going next week as well to check out the TA djs spinning there, hopefully. Nice meeting some new people as well!

fun nite at the downtown VIVA ..

btw. Kurfew that chick you were totally digging wasn't a chick !

Thumbs up AWESOME NIGHT!

This night far exceeded my expectations.

First of all let me say that I love the venue (Glam Boutique). Very intimate, inviting and the sound system is nice, crisp and clear. Bathrooms are very clean and the security staff is very courteous (as are the other staff). I could get very used to partying @ Glam. Oh, and the green lasers and visual screen behind the DJ booth rocks!

Rosatis set was good. I was surprised he played so many current hits considering the style that Misja is known for but it seemed to work out ok (personally if I opened I wouldnt have played so many hits, but then again thats why I dont DJ lol).

Misja is a gentleman. I got my records signed but also spent about 20 minutes chatting with him, which was awesome as I dont normally get that type of 1-on-1 opportunity to chat from the headliner. I was impressed w/ how awesome and down-to-earth type of guy Misja is (considering his level of success in the business). Misja thanks for chatting youre an amazing dood Ill see you in Rotterdam in August! (Emery - email me that pic ASAP!)

Tunes? Oh yeah. Many, many TUNES! Misja blew me away with the track selection, mixing and overall enjoyment that he showed while mixing. For me this is the EXACT style of trance that I like (man do the Dutch know their trance!). Highlight for me was when he played his own track Back From Your Past (which I had the sleeve to and held up for the whole crowd while it was playing). I hope someone recorded this set because I could listen to it for quite a long while.

Overall Night: 9/10 (a perfect 10 would mean no work tomorrow.. lol)

--------

Oh and for all you people complaining about Thursday parties? Stop your whining! Thursdays IMO are THE best day to party (never massive crowds and people are there for the music, not to show off or get messed).

Good to see everybody - you know who you are!

Oh, and I'll be @ Glam next Thursday for Schryer and Mobius.

nice

like first poster said, the guy before misja opened up nicely

as for misja, all in all very worth it coming out, i was impressed by his range of trance he was playing, but it was slightly annoying how he varied too much from prog to uplifting back and forth. although it was very refreshing to hear virtually no fluffy/cheesier stuff (except a select few tracks like tiesto - love comes again, and a sarah mclauglan remix if im not mistaken)

some tracks played that i can remember, but there was a lot of other good shit i regognized but couldn't id:

whirlpool - under the sun [solar stone remix]
f massif - somebody [ferry corsten remix]
faraway project - without fear [goldenscan mix?] sounded a bit different though
ryan g - emoticon [miika kuisma remix]
ar52 - enigma
ar52 - air traffic (maybe)
havannah - havannah [original mix]
timeok - seven floating ways [original mix] (maybe)
tiesto - love comes again
dreas - sonic rush (maybe)
jan gustafsson - eternal light (maybe)
jan gustafsson - hallucination (maybe)

too tired to think of more, feel free to correct the maybes - lol everything seems so vague now :P

overall, FAR EXCEEDED MYK EXPECTATIONS.

btw im curious for anyone who went to see filo & peri too (since i had to miss it) was tonight better or worse in your opinion?

WOW~! truely awsome night!
It was first time I've been to Glam Boutique and it had nice setup inside.
First I got little surprise of how inside of Glam Boutique is nicely done.
Then Misja just blew me away.
Countless of good tracks and made the crowd right on dancing.
Musical wise it was more than enough
I got there late so, even missed Misja's first hour
but, I was really happy to be there.
Good to meet RJ and some new TAs.
RJ always seems a nice guy.
I hoped it was little more filling... Maybe because it was not the weekend...

MISJA I'M YOUR FAN. FROM NOW ON!

What a horrible night (for me anyways).
Arrived with a migraine headache building in my head. Immediately went to a quiet couch in the back to lie down. Close to 1am, get a call from Cristina, who was getting a ride down with Frank (Cuzo) and his car died on the highway. At this point chances looked slim that she would make it to her going away bash. Regardless, I stayed a bit longer, waiting to hear a follow up call. Shortly after Misja went on, the headache suddenly took a turn for the worse, and a burst from the lights made my stomache turn, and it was a mad dash for the bathrooms. All the stalls were occupied, so into the trash bin the barf went (apologies to any female whose nose was revolted by any smell in there). Right after, went right back to my seat, where I noticed my cell phone was gone. Dallas & I called it constantly (someone must've hit a key cuz it answered 2ce, just no human reply), and then no answer from then on. Spent the next hour looking for it, and finally gave up. (reward if found, hint hint).
Headache finally went away at 8:30am today.

Aside from that, Walter played a great opening set, and what I heard of Misja was also class. I just reeeeeeeally regret not being able to enjoy it, as I haven't seen Misjah since WMC '03 & he was really a highlight of that trip, & have been dying to see him since.

20 mins to be on set... gotta go!

And Cristina sends her love and regrets....

-tatgirl: you should've taken atleast an aspirin or tylenol for ur headache

Actually I said quite the opposite. Misja was great, track selection was awesome and flow was amazing.

WOW Misja was unbeleivable !!!! gosh i feel sorry for whoever missed this, just stole the night! and played 8 wonders - the morning after that's was the highlight for me, and like RJ said nice and down to earth guy. Venue was awasome aswell, nice looking, clear and crisp sounds, didn't even need ear plugs . Till the next party

It was nice seeing you all, and meeting some new faces you know who you are

This was my first time at a trance event since I've joined these boards. Prior to tonight I only knew 2 t.a's, but thanks to Karim (nrg2inifinty)I had the pleasure of meeting more of you guys... Rabbitjoker, schryer, djeso, endlesswave, desidel, and a few others whose nicks I dont remember.

anyway, as for the event itself, overall it was one sick party.

Got to Glam at about 12:45 and was a bit scared at first. Lets just say there was no red carpet and long velvet ropes welcoming you and my first impression is that we're gonna party at the warehouse of a chineese butcher shop. But WOW did my impression change after I made my way in and up the stairs?!! Very attractive and thoughtfull design with plenty of dance and chill room space. And the sound quality in that place...most excellent!

As for the DJs, I only heard maybe 3-4 tracks by Walter Rosati so I can't write much of a review on that, but from what I heard I liked. Misja...for the most part, incredible tunes he dropped and the mixing done well too. A few of the tunes that really stood out for me:

whirlpool-under the sun (solar stone remix)
ar52-enigma
f massif-somebody (ferry remix)
witness of wonder-emotions in motion(thrillseekers remix?)

I had a lot of fun and will be back!

peace

*edit- Walter Rosati

What a memorable night indeed! Misja was scheduled to play from 1-3am however we were all having such a great time that he played until closing!

Misja dropped bomb after bomb playing a range of genres and the crowd was going off! Misja took the time to write down a tracklist for the set, soo we'll wait and see if he releases it!

We have pictures and several videos of the night, which if all goes as planned will be available for download shortly.

WOW, that was quite the night!

Posted by oleshka on May-07-2004 18:25:

sorry i forgot... does anyone know if he played the original ozone-rock, or remixed? cause what he played sounds better than what the original I have

Posted by tatgirl on May-07-2004 18:31:

What time did it end? I was so sick, I didn't even take 1 picture of Misjah. In fact, I never stepped 1 foot onto the dance floor.
Apologies to everyone I was 'short' with, while I was searching for my phone.

Posted by Cuzo on May-07-2004 18:37:

Again, the mighty GTI ruins my night and it wasn't the first time. Fuel pump went on me and I ruined Christina's last night to top it off. Sucks I was on the way, and being totally pumped up for another consistantly good TR night.

Christina says she had a blast with all y'all and prolly will be back for Bal-en-Blanc 2005.

sorry to hear the bad night to you, Nat.

It was finished at 6 a.m.
Misja spinned to the end with two encores

And Misja's set got better and better as the night progressed! It was brilliant!

huhz.. i dun remember meeting ya ..

i was wondering what MarkT looked like too ..

Posted by MarkT on May-08-2004 00:48:

I was sitting on my ass for pretty much the entire night with a couple of people (beanieboy, John)...I was wearing a dark red plaid-ish (?) shirt and jeans...tall, skinny white boy with short hair yeah, as if that's terribly descriptive, haha...

I always see familiar faces...but rarely say hi to anyone. I feel like I'll sound dumb if I ask someone if they're on TA and they're not

from the pic posted here, I remember seeing RJ...and always see Nat out and about at events...met a couple of guys, but am *terrible* remembering names...I should make an effort to say hi to people
