The unfortunate truth?

well he didn't spill the beans to CBS when he was interviewed by them. is CBS hiding something? hope not, they got a lot more to lose than "ITV" or whatever the hell it it is.

From CBS news.
"In Baghdad, an Iraqi camera operator for Al-Jazeera television, Suhaib al-Baz, said he was mistreated during 74 days in U.S. custody after he was arrested last November for allegedly having prior information about an insurgent attack."

"'You journalists might be respected by others but not me,'" al-Baz quoted an American interrogator as telling him. "He pushed me on a flat seat, kept the bag over my face while my hands were bound. He stepped on my knees with his boots."

"Al-Baz said that when he asked for permission to pray, "he hit me many times on my shoulder, knocked me against the wall and put his fingers on top of my eyes while pressing me against the wall."

swiss and scottish news outlets have corroberated the CBS account too.

big fu**in deal.

Posted by razmataz on May-08-2004 09:26:

He didn't "spill the beans" to cnn... he was testifying under oath to the Senate and House armed services committees.

What's your point anyways??

War attrocities are common, what is it about this one that you find so hard to believe? Is it because in this case the alleged perpetrators are American?

Whenever there's a thread that deals with something an American or Americans have done - you often seem to call the posters 'haters' or 'brain washed propagandists'. Am I the only one who's starting to notice a pattern of denial here? I may be off the mark here - but to me it looks like that you don't think it's true because there are Americans involved.

Posted by NeoPhono on May-08-2004 14:53:

I would be very weary of this jounalists reports. He seems to have forgotten about these events until just recently. I'm not saying its the case for sure, but what better way to get your face and name spread around the international media but by proclaiming another "attrocity" that took place in the Iraqi prison. If there were other people able to back his claim I would feel a little more secure. But much like we have discovered the British military pics to be doctored, nothing makes me truthfully believe that this individual is telling the truth.

Posted by h0tsweetbabyd0l on May-08-2004 15:29:

unfortunately yeah war crimes have always existed .....i wouldn't say it's common that's too horrible but yeah people know it happens but it doesn't mean we have to accept it and just say ....what can we do ....

if what have been reported turn out to be the truth then serious measures gotta be taken so as to condemn these people .....and it doesn't mean that ....because we blame these people or yeah think that what these people said that we are believing all the propaganda ....
no one is perfect ....yeah US is involved here ....what some US soldiers have done is simply bad and deserved to be punished by the laws .....just admit it and please leave your patriotic pride for a bit .....just face the facts ....im not talking about this story in particular (the links and all in the thread) but rather about the whole situation

We have? As far as I know, it's still up in the air. The military police have had discussions with the soldier who made the allegations - and the Daily Mirror editor still seems to be standing by the photo's authenticity. I wasn't aware that they were able to make a conclusive judgment one way or the other.

Unless there's an entire segment of the British amred forces wearing old, non-issue military uniforms and insignias, then yes, I'd say it's pretty much case-closed.

ITV is one of the three main UK television companies along with the BBC and BskyB

Anyway, I'm not sure if these two stories are connected, but apparently it has come out at Rumsfeld's testimony that US personnel had filmed Iraqi guards raping young boys...

quote:

Rumsfeld did not describe the photos, but U.S. military officials told NBC News that the unreleased images showed U.S. soldiers severely beating an Iraqi prisoner nearly to death, having sex with a female Iraqi female prisoner and acting inappropriately with a dead body. The officials said there was also a videotape, apparently shot by U.S. personnel, showing Iraqi guards raping young boys.

i havent read all the threads, on what do you base this statement?

everything is propaganda imo, everything is subjective, made by someone for someone. claiming someone is a propagandist doesnt mean much. are CNN, BBC, al-Jazeera or swedish state television objective? i dont think so, someone always chooses whats going to be said and what not.

if i watched CNN (or other US-based media) everyday id probably share your views. if you watched swedish news everyday, youd probably share mine.

and what is a
quote:
propaganist
anyway? someone who is for paganism? who supports worship of false gods?

people don't "hate America".

people hate arrogance, naivity, and blind allegiance to one's country and government.

keep in mind the Int'l Red Cross have publicly stated that they have reported mistreatment from long before these pics and videos surface. Rumsfield himself has seem more pics than have been released, and he has lost his usual brash, arrogant attitude. HE KNOWS THEY ARE FUCKED...and has admitted that he hasn't even viewed the videos yet.

http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/Co...ol=968793972154

face it...the U.S. military is not 100% made up of open-minded, educated Americans...it's got a hefty share of small town, small minded, intollerent Americans who view other countries and their inhabitants as "inferior".

If the U.S. administration is admitting to this much...imagine what the extent of the "truth" might be, hmmmm?

I don't hate America...I hate the arrogance and short-sightedness of the Bush administration who actually thought they would walk in, mop up Saddam, and turn Iraq into some shining beacon of Western democracy in the Middle East. I hate that so many Americans refuse to accept that Bush et al. were short sighted. I hate that so many Americans think that we hate America when we criticize the U.S. gov't. I hate that so many Americans respond to this criticism with a reply of "oh, typical...you're Canadian" because they are incapable of debating the issues themselves...

There is no point in wasting your time arguing with blissed ignorance, sadly there are those who feel that Bush has done nothing wrong in his Iraq policy and will continue to do so until he and his entire bunch of pompous assholes are removed from office and influence on the White House, that being Cheney, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld, Rasputtin aka. Karl Rove and the Shrub himself.

I am amazed that some people can even attempt to defend the Iraq policy any longer. Once again for those who are dumb enough to not realize it, Bush's Iraq policy is a miserable failure = no WMD's, no stability, no security, no certain political direction for the future, disgusting behavior by Americans in Iraq and the continual death of our young soldiers everyday, FOR WHAT? Defend those points and spare the people hate America bullshit, its not like Bush's foreign policy has done much to better the world's feelings about America, Bush is an International Idiot and a disgrace to this nation. P.S. Read S.L.O.W.L.Y, Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, Nothing.

Posted by Boomer187 on May-09-2004 00:17:

has anyone compared what happened in this prison to what saddam did in his prisons all over?

id say these iraqis can't catch a break eitherway, either your free and getting beat or 'oppressed' and getting beat.

At least now you know there is going to be a closer eye on what goes on in american prisons over there. So it is likely that things like this will not occur as often or be as bad.

which imo is stupid. but that is another story.

Mmm yes..... whats your point?

If the thread topic doesn't interest you why are you posting in it exactly?

What makes you say the ITV, which you've said you've got no idea about (the agency not the story) is "ass"?
