Review: Mark Oliver at The Guvernment

Lemme just say that Ive never been a big fan of the guv cause its always a can of hot sardines... but last night, i fell in love with the guv. Mark O fucking KILLED... OMG he is a master on the decks... the man has skills. From 12-4am it was off the hook, funky house, breaks, fuck...... i havent heard many dj's do what mark O can do.

shoutouts to nat and maxtuh (nice to finally meet you)

and BIG PROPS to the guv crew for making this club so good (when its not packed like sardines)

For those who were at the guv this past saturday, could anyone ID the third last track of Mark's set?? It's the one he played right before "Flash Brothers - Amen".
Thanks.

As much as I respect Mark Oliver, I have to disagree with that last statement.

Sometimes(especially before or after headliners) he is absolutely brilliant, and often outplays the headliners. However there were more than a couple of occasions when I went to Guv on a regular night and was bored to death. Note, that not it's like that all the time - I'd have to say it's a 50/50 whether Mark will spin great stuff on a regular night.

SO yeah, for me, at least, going to Guv on a regular night is like playing a lottery. You might get lucky and witness the "Mark The Headliner" set, or if you are unlucky you'll be hearing "Mark please change the music" set.

last time you went to guv on a regular night durafei???
mark has been exceptional this year especially!!

Its true Mark has been on fire all year....... OH HAIL MR. OLIVER

ill admit that sometimes what mark is playing isnt exactly what id go for but you have to remember that a club like guvernment has thousands of people that need to be kept happy. Also, in 9 hours there are always going to be parts of the night you like and parts you dont. 9 hours is a hell of a long time to have to try and play music that EVERYONE will like.

And since ive come back from South America i can honestly say that ive never heard mark oliver play finer stuff in my life.

Mark played a wicked set before Corsten arrived. My peeps and I had an awesome time hearing him spin at the Guv that nite.

Mark O's got my vote

I thought it was Kid Vicious who played b4 Corsten that night

Well I remember Mark playing an amazing set before Ferry in fall 2002, but that was long time ago ; )))

You might be right. But I could of sworn it was Mark O I saw leaving..n I was right up there at the front.

Oh Well, I guess I like Mark and the Kid

I love mark as much as the next ta but i have heard the occasional boring night of prog and tribal but even then he mixes it up enough to keep you moving. Still the best set outa him i've heard opening and closing for pvd in kool haus last year,,,,,,,crazy sets....or when he randomly brings out banging trance at like midnight and the crowd goes nuts.......oh yea

Posted by mot10n on May-13-2004 19:11:

one of the most energetic sets i've heard from mark oliver was when he closed for marco v. hard trance/nrg, the rest of the night. it was insane

Posted by dnmr on May-13-2004 21:13:

I LOVE MARK

I think he's great...yeah he can be quite blah at times, but after 4 a.m. or when he is having a good night he's awesome!!

Posted by Jayx1 on May-14-2004 00:12:

ive never heard a blah set from mark....

ive heard good to amazing but never blah.... well there was that one time but despite the awful flu he was there anyways.... so thats fair lol

Mark spun from 10-11pm that night....He was supposed to close too but ferry shut the place down!

Posted by samhouse on May-14-2004 00:32:

actually i dont think mark spun at all
we were there at 10.20 and kid vicious was already spinning

Posted by Funkyfun on May-14-2004 00:39:

imo..Mark is one of the best DJ's i have ever heard...if it was not for him, Guv would never be where it is rite now...he might have had some off nites -- if any -- but who does'nt..after all he's another human who is prone to making mistakes n such...but overall he is one of the best dj's this country has to offer.

Posted by Pett on May-14-2004 16:24:

Posted by samhouse on May-14-2004 16:29:
