u maybe heard about this already .....

April 22, 2004
AN Algerian Islamic cleric was deported from France yesterday after announcing that wife-beating was authorised by the Koran.

Abdelkader Bouziane, imam of a mosque in the city of Lyon in eastern France, caused an uproar when he told a local magazine he was polygamous, believed "beating your wife is authorised by the Koran", and expressed the hope that "the entire world becomes Muslim".

Asked if he was in favour of stoning, he replied, "yes".

The 53-year-old cleric was arrested and deported under an order issued in February on the grounds of societal harmony, the Interior Ministry said yesterday.

"The Government will not tolerate public comments against human rights, which attack human dignity and, in particular, the dignity of women, calls to hatred or to violence, or justification of terrorism," the ministry said.

It said Mr Bouziane's comments to the magazine "confirm the solid grounds for the deportation decision".

The interview in Lyon Mag has outraged Islamic representatives in France.

"The associations should sack imams like him," said Mohamed Bechari, head of the National Federation of French Muslims. "We condemn this type of slip, which shows a fundamentalist reading of the Koranic text that is not part of Islam nor the Muslims in France."

French politicians had expressed anger at Mr Bouziane's comments and said they would make an example of him.

Justice Minister Dominique Perben said yesterday he was "personally scandalised" by the remarks.

The imam had defended himself by claiming the interview was not properly conducted, and had demanded the magazine publish a retraction or face a lawsuit, sources close to the organisation that runs the mosque, Es Salem, said.

Mr Bouziane's lawyer, Mahmud Hebia, said Mr Bouziane had arrived in France legally in 1980 and held a residence permit. "He is the father of 16 children, all French, including 10 minors. He is worried for his young children."

sooo yeah i posted an old article already but i just wanted to know how the government of your country deals with these problems .....the fact is that currently in france our immigration comes mostly from marocco /algeria and tunisia where people are muslim so we have a lot of muslim people in france and like 1500 imams for the whole country .....1500 legals cuz they are also a lot who are unknown ....and who have no skills and the preparation to do it .....which can leads to major problems ....latley a lot of others imams have been arrested again because they were saying insults towards the US and were inciting to the war against US and occident ....

now the government is searching for a solution and think about creating centers where we could give the education needed so as to teach the koran like a better knowledge of the arab language ,the history and all ....i think it would be a good solution and would maybe avoid that anyone who here have read the koran can decide to call himself an iman and say anything he wants without being controled or checked .....

the islam representatives in france would be in favor of this ....

I'm sorry to tell you, marie, but I'm afraid you've already lost the battle in France. There's no way back anymore and it won't take longer than 100 years till France is predominantly Muslim/Arab.

Yes, which is why I know Jews who actually voted for Le Pen in the last presidential election. Le Pen may not have been a fan of the Jews, but he hates what the Muslims have done to France, and would see to it that they were "taken care of" first.

I really wish France would get their act together on this problem, as I really do enjoy visiting the country, and would like it to remain a Western nation.

Its funny. I always thought the Arabs would aim to conquer Spain first... but I guess France was a better target of opprotunity for them.

Silly French

this is over exagerating , it's like saying : in 100 years all Canada is gonna be predominantly Asian/Chinese

just because there are a couple of morons who start trouble doesn't mean it's the end of france as we all know it

and the jews who voted for LePen are total IDIOTS , did you all forget how he claimed : "Les fours crmatoires n'ont jamais exist" (it means the ovens where jews were burned in the shoha never existed) ?

fascists and skinheads are your new friends i guess

As an outsider looking in, would it be safe to say that France is "due" under the guise of jihad.

I'm not French nor do I follow it's politics and daily goings on. I only see what every body else sees, as an outsider, from the T.V. and the paper and the internet.

So after reading h0tsweetbabyd0l's article, on top of everything else. I got this weird feeling.

i guess u forgot about the colonisation ....and the end of it ...1962 the algeria's war ....while tunisia had links with france also but had some autonomy ....as a result when people from these countries want to immigrate ...they choose france first !

otherwise about what was saying trancegiant i hope it won't happen ....
the way the muslim women are treated by their husbands and families is not acceptable and yeah

about the fact that these jews people voted for lepen ....in a way i can understand why they voted because lately ....these last months the antisemmitism seems to be something "banal" ....not for the authorities and the majority of people but jews have been agressed injuried ....and these last months mostly by muslims ....because of the situation in israel for example or because they have these stupid prejudices against them " you are rich but us look at us we are poor that's unfair " ....but the extrem right the parti of le pen doesn't like jews too which is just ....bad and no one gotta accepts this but the french jews think more and more about going to US or canada now =(

mmh the situation in the country is gettin problematic i guess ....but don't u have these kinds of problems aswell? plz just keep in mind im not looking by this thread by making any conflicts or anything i just look for some opinions and ideas ....soo don't be stupid and flame for nothing ty !!!

Before I go any further, are you equating Muslims with Arabs? Furthermore, what's your definition of an Arab?

As for the no way back comment, I'm not so sure that you've made an accurate assessment there. In my mind, they key is to foster and encourage moderate Islam. Islam isn't necessarily the problem, just as Christianity isn't the problem in the US - it's the fundamentalist fringe that we should be worried about. I'm torn between the idea that Islam is so fucked up that they should simply ban Muslims from immigrating, and the idea that it might be possible to try and foster moderate and liberal Islam, and essentially assimilate any Muslim immigrants.

It's a double edge sword - one has to be realistic, the vast majority of terrorists and extremists are Muslims. Fundamentalist Muslims are almost impossible to assimilate. I'm truly lost - I just don't know how we (the west) are supposed to handle this.

Not at all. Algerians(which apparently make out the biggest part of immigrants) and I think Lybians as well aren't Arabs but Maghrebs....

Heres an idea....it may not bet he best or the most peaceful solution but its an idea, which is more than most of the guys running these countries have.

My idea is to get all the fundies together...christin, jewish, muslim...take all of those wackos and put them in a big arena and let them fight eachother until only one group is left alive. Then after the fight is over take those who are left and thropw them in a tank full of great white sharks.

Problem solved, no more fundies to make a mess of things and the world can go back to normal.

I agree that the rapid growth of the muslim population in France poses a problem. The arab world is currently much more fundamentalist than it was 30-40 years ago (thanks to american influence, mostly), and I'd say it's a high time to impose very strict immigration rules for arabic countries. Yet on the other hand, the demographic picture of EU is plainly horrible, and without large-scale immigration, I can't see how it will be able to maintain its population balance.

30-40 years ago a woman couldn't go out with her belly button "in the air" here , 30-40 years ago you couldn't hold hand with your girlfriend outside , 30-40 years ago watching movies was blasphemous , etc ...

just to tell you once again don't generalize things because of a minority

Well, that was not the main point of the post. I know that many arab countries made considerable improvements, but there are some other like Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan which have been seriously degraded as a result of US interventions, and the first two contain a rather large portion of arab population.

Anyone who speaks Arabic as their national language is an Arab as far as I can tell. The idea of an ethnic Arab is pretty much looooong gone (because it only applied to some of the nomadic tribes roaming around Saudi arabia.
