Evil1 Computer problem, help!

Posted in COR as well, but i may get a better response here

Ok, these problems only started after i installed "the latest Windows Update"

I cannot run any executable files at all. This is strange in itself, as i cannot open Word by clicking on my Shortcut, BUT I CAN open word if i open an existing document.

However this does work for other stuff, for example i cannot watch any movie files on windows media player this way.

When i try and use a program via the shortcut, it just says that "Windows cannot find xxxxxx.exe, try and use the search function to find it"

Trying to run the program from its parent application does not work either.

I would use system restore but this weird thing has also affected Run32dll.exe, i cannot run my anti-virus programs or anything else!
I've probably got some shitty virus on the plus side, loads of applications that usually run at startup are not running, so the computer is usuing 1/8th of the RAM i have

I also had some weird problem before this update installed, there was a program called Winupdate.exe in my startup menu, and it seemed to be the cause of my dropped internet connections. it seemed to run itself multiple times over and clog up my system resources. i suspected it was a virus, but my AVG did not seem to think so. I deleted it, since its file attributes said that it was some sort of prototype program, it was made in Argentina, and its old name was Rd2.exe

argh help

install AV prog .. keep upto date with definitions .. scan all downloads .. dont open dodgy emails with attachments and run a firewall and such probs dont occur .. as for fixing it .. id go browse the symantec site short of formatting it ..

Mine is doin the exact same thing

ok i've sorted the problem by using

housecall.trendmicro.com

seems my AVG antivirus didn't pick up another 3 viruses on my system

There was a virus called worm.prototype.k in my system files, i think that was what was causing the problems

you don't format your hard drive to get rid of a worm you f00l

use norton, its still the best (when cracked)
