Be Cool! Running Hot

Hey, take the fan off of your CPU and see how long it runs before it shuts down!

Reward for longest time...

c'mon smokeape you try it first and it might catch on... i'm being optimistic when i say there isn't a shot in hell that it will

Posted by smokeape on May-14-2004 00:58:

OK, managed about 3 seconds. The chip is actually hanging on my wall on a burnt out motherboard as a decoration with a couple burnt sdrams, and a fried video as well. Pretty cool.

You know, an old motherboard hanging on a nail with other old junk hooked onto it really is a conversation piece when geeks vist. Always generates conversations about past failures in computer building. Can't talk about it unless you've been there and failed a few times... Lol!

You can run P1s without fans no problems.

I ran my p3 with just a heatsink for a year or two, and it's just fine. Does help that it was the slot loading kind, its also only 550mhz.

Posted by DannyO on May-14-2004 05:29:

My old 486DX2 66mhz was hardcore, never had a fan or heatsink, I miss that old basterd, it gave me less hassle than all this new bullshit, its true, they don't build them like they used to, I need to get rid of my Athlon and get a wicked ol Amstrad, and then buy a bunch of cool tape games for it, Tapes Own DVDs.

modern PCs will shutoff before they burn up. Older ones, on the other hand...

hehe is that all. bah mine beat that.

three years ago I got a 1ghz Althon (they were brand new at the time) And I accidently started it up with gap between the core and the heatsink... lasted about 6 seconds... then came the smoke....then came the smell of burning. I was pretty pissed off i just vapourised a brand new 200 processor to say the least. Always remember kiddies, CPU + No Heatsink = Bad.

King

um...no.

right now its 25'C in my puter.

and my athlon xp2000+ would probably run for a few seconds before the mobo shuts the computer down by overheating but im not taking that risk.

Athlon XP 2100+ running @ 2400+ speed. (2.0GHz)

Runs 35-38C. Chieftec tower. Xoxide LED fans.

What did you do? Send it back and tell them it didnt work?

The first generation P1 chips came with no fan or heatsink.

The second generation had heat sinks only.

they added the heat sinks because too many of them where burning up.

How could I claim my reward if my chip burned out and I have no computer to use?

Just go ahead and sent me the reward....i'll do in about 2 sec....
