Question 2001 - A bad year for trance??

What do you guys think, was the year 2001 a bad year for trance?
and what year was better 2000 or 2001?

Posted by Renegade on Sep-02-2001 05:53:

Well the first half of 2000 was okay, but really the past 12 months have been pretty dry in terms of half decent contemporary trance releases.

98 and 99 were the years in that regard, since then trance has been slowly declining, and has evolved into progressive and what have you.

Just my opinion.

the first few months of 2001 were bad in my opninion ,but the last few months are great!!

personally, i thought 2000 was a better year for trance... from summer 2000, up till early 2001, there were those great powerful tracks which really rocked me mad...

with Tsunami, Black Hole, and ITWT going full power during that time.. now its all gone a bit progressive... not really my thing, but i'm sure it does it for ppl =p

In my opinion the best songs come out around the ibiza session, so around now, and they have. Dj tiesto - Urban Train.

And there is 3 months left, so there is still more to come

It has not been the best year, but it hasnt been the worst

97-99 were the best years. 2001 has not been very good in my opinion. I'd label Tenth Planet "Ghosts" (Trouser Enthusiasts Mix) as a classic but these days people are even labelling DJ Tiesto "Flight 643" as a classic.

Yes, 2001 has been a bad year for Trance.
Especially if you compare it with 1999 and 2000.

ATB - Let U Go (Wippenberg RMX) : Lautsprecher - Orient Express : Dumonde - Never Look Back :Outcast Project - Into The Light : Marc Aurel - The Sun : Pulsedriver - Cambodia : K5 - Passion (Kay Cee Rmx) : Tenth planet - Ghosts :
CRW - After The Rain : CJ Stone - Shining Star : Barthezz : Airheadz - Stanley : Flutlicht - Icarus : Theme from Nature One : Kai Tracid - Too Many Times : Darren Flynn - Spirit Of The Space : Naid - Waking Up : Mezziah - Innocent As A New Born Child : Velvet Moods : Clubstar : Luna System - The Light : Delerium - Innocente : Gigi D'Agostino - Souvenir : Icebreaker : Apollo - Dance : Timelapse - Spring

...yeah, at least regarding uplifting, it's been pretty shitty so far.

99 was the year of trance, i wish it would come around again

An old timers (or should I say an old git's) view of the situation :

For me '93-'94 will always be the ultimate year of trance. '93 was voted year of trance in the german scene mag Frontpage with the dolphine getting the animal of the year award (the video of Sven Vath's L'esperanza anyone?)
Among the great tunes released during this two years were:

Energy 52: Caf Del Mar
Jones & Stephenson: The First Rebirth
Age of Love: Age of Love (or was this in '92?)
Aurora Borealis: MilkyWay
Cheerymoon trax: House of House
Visions of Shiva (Paul van Dyk & Cosmic Baby): How much can you take?

A lot of these tracks has been re-released and remixed numerous times tha last couple of years.

Oh, and who can forget the release of the first X-Mix CD in '93 with Paul van Dyk behind the tables on this magnificant mix CD

Cheers

DJ Irish, I actually downloaded a couple of your mixes, and burned them on CDs I think I got the Essential Hardtrance one and something else...

You have a great site. Thanks for the music & cue files. Can you make an epic/uplifting mix?

I dont really look at it as 'is this a good year for trance' because trance is always evolving, it just depends on if you like the current stage (right now its mroe progressive correct?). 1999 was a great evolution of trance, yes, but I find 2001 just as interesting. Just my opinion though.

Well, if we compare this year to 98 - 00 , 01 will really not fit in well, 01 has been like the declined, or , the year in wich trance and progressive became partners. But all this has to do with your scene, like, here in the states trance is still growing, while the new sounds are as well. Trance is still reaching corners, and becoming a big part of the scenes, countries that had no club scenes, thanx to trance its becomed a reality that clubbing or going to a rave is something that many liked. Especially when trance is played .

But not to go off topic, this year like I said, was more tours the progressive sound, even chillout. Theres now alot more different sounds out there, wich makes it hard for trance to be always on top if ya know what I mean.

It hasn't been that bad a year! It might not be the best year for trance, but it continues 2 grow... Also we haven't finished the year yet!!!

Thanks mate, glad you liked them

I haven't been getting any proper epic/uplifting records for a while so there is no plan for such a mix as of yet. Next up will probably be a new hardtrance mix and a mix with a more progressive feel to it.
