The price of records...

I have not bought rocrds in over 3 months, and it seems like the prices have risen from $9.99 to $10.40 or somthing. Are records going to get even more expensive???

Posted by rainbow_marble on May-18-2004 04:24:

depends... where are you buying them from? i believe satellite is still 10.99 for all new releases almost.. my local record store is the same as its always been. what store are you talking about? try using ebay, you can usually find a good tune for cheap on there, only thing that sucks is the shipping puts you back a few

Posted by SgtFoo on May-18-2004 04:58:

much like the price of gas where i live, we must understand that if the cost of the oil that makes our beloved wax discs goes up, then the price of teh record will too. lol

Posted by dknylady on May-18-2004 05:01:

hehe no i don't think that rising gas prices have much to do with it.

the coversion to the euro is the reason for the inflation.

anyway i hate paying more than $10 for a new record. that's too much as it is.
www.majesticstore.com is 8.99 for new vinyls. and shipping is mad cheap too.

Posted by dj chex on May-18-2004 05:35:

if you go through the used bins you can find lots of wonderful stuff for cheap. That's the only way i can save $$$ for rent and gas.

Posted by tu_face on May-18-2004 10:52:

the exchange rates between the US > europe/UK means that things here seem very expensive to you. to us a record is usually around 6, it has been for ages, but for you guys in america it will seem like things get more expensive as you need more $'s to make up 's & euros

then there is a cost of production factor, and whether or not we like it, if the price of poil goes up then the cost of production for a lot of things (including plastics) will rise :/

im checking out the site right now and wow! their selecton is HUGE and 8.99 a pop doesnt seem bad at all thanks for pointing that site out! i was just about to fish out 50 some bucks @ dancerecords, too (their stuff are 9.99-10.99 each), but with free s/h for order over 50.

when you palce an order! sometime it take more than 1 week before you get a confirmation mail!! it suxx!

Posted by jeremie on May-18-2004 16:59:

oh another thing!!!! if you are outside US!! dont order from majestic!!! the custom fee is HIGH!!! sometime higher than the price or your order!!

Posted by T:REBEL on May-18-2004 18:08:

I get my records between the 6.99 - 11.99 range...then again, nowadays I'm spinnin' a lot of progressive breaks...

Prices of records? too high?

do u think the avg price of a record which is $10 or so, is too high?
i think labels, record companies, and recordstores should do something about this. just like here in the USA they lowered the prices of cds. what do u guys think?

Posted by Vlad on May-18-2004 21:39:

I pay between $9.50 and $10 for records + @ $1.50 shipping per record... I order exclusively from Chemical Records because their shipping rates are good.

That's a really, really tough question.

I'm not really a very happy person when I drop large chunks of a money at a time on vinyl, but I do generally feel that the purchases are worthwhile. Vinyl also tends to hold its value pretty well, so long as you are buying decent tracks.

So yeah, I'm kind of on the fence regarding this issue.

Posted by WhiteBlade on May-18-2004 21:55:

Vinyls are not like cd you can't go buys a vinyl burner to put on your computer and download some vinyl song and then mix it you know.

So I think the price of vnyl is pretty fair.

Posted by nrjizer on May-18-2004 21:57:

Plus, I think a lot of the cost goes into license issues. Unless I'm mistaken, most purchases of dance vinyl gives you the privlage to play it out as well as listen to it yourself. Of course I could be way, way off, but I'm just sharing what I vaguely recall hearing...

suck it up bitches.

we could complain all we want.................it won't help

Posted by chesco on May-18-2004 22:20:

i'm perfectly happy paying 6 or 7 english pounds for a vinyl if it's good quality.

Posted by Clyde77 on May-18-2004 22:46:

thanks for the replies...
im just a litle concerened esp ppl like me that spend $50 - $100 a week for records. and the past weeks ive cut my spending into half of the regular. but i will always buy vinyls no matter what..and i think dj trinity is right, we can complain all we want and nothing will happen lol... just wanted to see what are other ppl's views .. hehe thanks

Posted by Inertia on May-18-2004 22:46:

i guess it's fair, considering vinyl, to begin with, is more expensive than CDs (im speaking of the actual discs). also, if vinyls were dirt cheap, what would record labels that don't sell a bajizillion copies live off of?

Posted by Wildfir3 on May-18-2004 23:16:

problem in belgium is that they don't see music as culture but as a luxury... which means they don't cut down on taxes.

Which means that when u buy a porn magazine (magazines are seen as culture) u only pay 6% taxes, but when u buy music, u pay 21% taxes

god bless belgium

Posted by WhiteBlade on May-19-2004 00:52:

Good thing you have US money.

Here most record I buys are like 9 witch is x 2.24 to make canadien money so it always like 24$ 22$ anyways our money is nothing lol.

You are way, way off. You can search for threads that explain the law in detail, but in short - vinyls don't come with the right to a public performance. You still need the club you're playing at to have paid its license fee.

In regards to record price, my local store just bumped all their new vinyls from $10 to $11. That pissed me off. I can understand $10, but I don't think the recent signs of inflation have really been significant enough to justify a 10% price hike. I can see why CDJs are growing in popularity....

Posted by Dmatrox on May-19-2004 03:09:

i think they are too high. It costs ~$16-19 CDN for a record. CDs cost ~$14-18.

about 12 tracks per CD

about 2 tracks per record

both about the same price...hmm....

Posted by tranceDJ on May-19-2004 08:14:

A lot of records are imported and therefore the import price is in the price you pay. Records that were made in the US (labels like moonshine) are generally around $7 and imports are around $10/11. This is at least what I've observed.
