Monkey Dancer 2 moby/fatboy

what do you think of moby and fatboy slim? what kind of music ARE they? personally, i think they're gaylord fockers.

Posted by jeronemango on Sep-02-2001 23:37:

their styles are so different i dont think u can compare the two..

moby has produced way more tracks than norman cook,, his production is 100% better as well..

and maybe next time you can put a better effort in...

to say " i think they are gaylord fokers " is pretty lame.. grow up

Monkey Dancer 2

i personally hate moby... he doesnt stick to one genre of music.. and that s the main description of a good artist.. that is how you can define their work... but with moby.. people never know what kinda music he plays..he used to be good until he started to play that pop crap.

i wasnt really into fatboy slim until i heard oakie play star 69..about a month ago... that song is awesome..
anyways i read articles about both of them.. and their kinda of music is described as FOLCLORE/HOUSE.. now whatever that means...

I used to like Moby awhile ago.... his latest album "Play" i really can't stand... i guess i'm just really tired of everyone raving about it... and i dont like the fact that everyone calls it "techno"..... i dont even consider it electronica at all (even though they use computers/keyboards to make some of the music).... i think its what DreamGrl said... "folk house" or whatever.. sounds too wholesome for me

Fatboy slim on the other hand i can't say anything bad about... and not just b/c of star 69, but all of his tracks... although they are considered "cheesy" by some, and not really dance-type music, i just like them.... maybe its the hook, or the catchy way they're put together... But the album "you've come a long way..." is a classic IMO...

the main description of a good artist is that the artists has to stick to one genre on music!?!
Ooookaayy. So by definition Tittney Spears is BETTER than Moby !?
Pffft.
Moby has had a classical education when it comes to music...
I know he plays A LOT of various instruments, something that is reflected in his productions. He masters looping, seuqencing, acoustic instruments and a lot more!
I don't like Moby personally anymore... never quite recovered after that darn rock album he gave out a couple of years ago... But anyway, I have to say that Moby is probably one of THE MOST talented artists we have had yet in the known history of music.

So there!

ok i'm sorry, i take back the gaylord thing back, but i have to agree with ABT. i'm just tired of people saying they listen to trance because they like moby and fatboy slim.

not sticking to one genre.. is that really a good reason to belittle a musician? Oakey doesnt stick to one genre of music nor does BT, but, i still consider them musical genius and even better, pioneers of electronica...

artists like Moby and etc., are the one that expands the new horizon for music and also develop diverse audience if not mass audience, imho.

dont get me wrong... im not fond of any of the aforementioned artists but i do greatly applaud and respect their skills and wut they have given into the electronica scene, regeardless of genre...

oh another note, u mentioned that defining artists work is possible only when they stick to one genre... i do agree w/ that to some extent. i think the prob w/ Moby is that he doesn use different aliases for his mulitple projects, be it trance, tehcno or wutever.. most artists use different alias so that they can cross the boundaries of different genre w/o getting compared w/ their previous works... eg: Michael Woods a.k.a. Warrior. totally different style of music but same person

hmmmmm...somehwere i think i drifted off....ah well!
neway...just my $0.02

moby i like... he is very talented.. and there were quality remixes of Natural Blues...
Olmecheads Mix, and also Katcha Mix... truly spectacular... when Seb Fontaine played that track @ Golden's 8th Bday, i was truly truly truly emotional..
as for fatboy slim, i know he's a great party enducer, but his music, is not to my liking.. and i think he's a bit of a knob in person really =p

actually Moby has like 3-4 different aliases... Don't know them all but I know "Little Idiot" is one of 'em

Posted by Pjotr G on Sep-03-2001 18:30:

Fatboy Slim's genre is called "Bigbeat"
well at least the tracks like "yo mama"

The tracks like "what the fuck" are just...eh....some cool hardhousey kind of shit

Like fatboy slim....he has many aliases too...like pizzaman

Moby - GO! <---------LUV that old stuff

Posted by cweb on Sep-03-2001 19:02:

I like both of them and I have much respect for MOBY. My fav of him is "its all mine" from his "animal rights" album, actually a punk or alternative album.

There are really great remixes of Moby tracks. The Ferry Corsten Mix of "Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad" is wonderful and the Katcha Remix of "Natural Blues" is also great!

There is a track called "Princess" by Moby which is kind of Trance and it's quality!

Never been a big fan of Moby, but I can't help but love the Fatboy. He's so unique and that's what the scene needs.., he just makes music, doesn't give a stuff about trying to please "the scene" but that's why the tunes are so addictive. And just when everybody starts thinking he's gone all commericial on us he chucks out something like Star 69. Magic

I'd stick my neck out and say if Tiesto & Norman were both playing different rooms in the same club next Friday I'd go see Mr Cook. You can see Tiesto any time but you know you're gonna have a good night with the Fatster.

Posted by swingjelly on Sep-03-2001 23:28:

i kinda think that big beat is fun. you can dance to it and it is about the best that gets played in most clubs around here. i heard a couple trance tracks one night at one of our clubs.. but i think it was a fluke.

gotta disagree wiv ye there i think the best artists are the ones that can make crackin tunes whatever flavour their music is... look at sasha for instance.. ive heard trance, progressive trance, prog house & breakbeat trax that are all wicked from him... variation is what makes an artist, which is why i respect mauro picotto, tiesto and james holden alot more than say ferry corsten or dumonde.

anyways back to moby & fatboy slim.. both are wicked producers i think... moby can make sum class chillout stuff which is always sound on a sunday afternoon and fatboy slim does make the odd corker... like star 69 and right here right now (i luvved that choone) and there is one tune that i fuckin worship of his... acid 3000.. thats class

peace

an artist who doesn't stick to one genre is opening his boundries. that's all.

I would classify both of these artists as "electronic dance music" b/c you can't put one label on them...this label also goes for prodigy, chemical brothers, crystal method...and i'd probably even add faithless to that too...

I know where you are coming from .. but let me try to explain my previous post better.... I still believe that a good artist is the one that can stick to one genre of music.. and when i say genre I mean.. all these types of music you mentioned.. Trance..progressive...or prog house in that matter... because they are all situated in one genre of music..(ELETRONIC MUSIC)...it is the same thing for ROCk.. rock is the genre but heavy metal..punkrock..hardcore are types of rock ...do you know what i am saying?? sticking to one genre is how that good artist biulds his character and that is how we know them... and that is why people choose to listen to trance instead of country music.

Moby chose not to stick to that genre (eletronic).. but that is how we all got to know his work in the first place..he is a good producer.. he is just producing music out of the genre of music i listen to (that is just my opinion) .. it is like having Garth brooks (a country singer) play NSYNC( crappy pop)...

I hope i cleared some out here....
