Take a Deep Breath...

yknow what that smell is?

that smell

is oxygen.

Well, oxygen mixed with other inert gases and possibly a few dust particles and pet dander and other things.

But its oxygen.

Anyways

imagine that you were no longer able to pull this sweet sweet gas into your lungs whenever you wanted it.

or.. not even that much.

Imagine you couldnt get as much as you wanted. You pull in the air, but your lungs are not satiated.

they beg for more.

always.

never satisfied.

That feeling in your lungs you get, after you run for a long time.

That feeling, constantly. Not enough air.

You inhale again.

Not enough air.

Again.

Nope, try it again.

You begin to feel dizzy, because you know that you're pulling in so much oxygen that its actually making you high.

You get woozy and tired.

you dont want to do the things you usually do.

Sleep sounds nice right about this time.

But you think to yourself.

"I'm a teenager, man.. i shouldnt be getting this tired from just sitting around. somethin's up."

You think it might be allergies, might be asthma.

"Don't they catch those things when you're younger?"

People around you begin to think you're lazy.

Just making it up so you dont have to help out.

They always knew you were lazy, its just now showing itself.

They dont matter.

You hate your job because you're constantly running out of the building for some "fresh air"... where the smokers all hang out.

You dont say anything.

They've been there longer than you.

It's their restaurant. Not yours.

So you quit.

But you need the money, rather desperately, actually.

You look for another job.

Not as easy as it used to be, because the economy is in the crapper.

Fucking Bush.

It's no problem though. You have your friends.

They're always there for you.

Loads of fun, too.

You hang out with them more and more, though it only makes you more tired, as their kinda fun involves stuff other than sleeping.

Thats ok, though. You can ignore the problem. It will build strength. Just imagine how much easier it will be when this goes away.

Maybe it wont go away?

Nah, it will. You dont have asthma, or allergies. You'd know by now. You're 17.

Maybe its the basement you always hang out in.

Maybe its damp there, and the mold is getting to your lungs.

Maybe your parents are sick of your shit, and want you around so they can mold you to their standards.

Maybe their mold is getting to you.

The deep breaths start to give you a headache.

It doesnt make sense. Its oxygen. Its good for you.

You remember when you were a kid, your mom used to say
"I dont feel well, im going to get some fresh air."

of course, at that time, she was a smoker.

But thats irrelevant. Shes an adult. She knows what shes doing.

Come to think of it, you cant remember many times when you really felt *good*.

it was always 'ok'.

'Still livin'.

'I'm alright'.

Sure, there were short highs after exhillarting events, but those go away eventually.

Back to the wheezing and deep monotony of lung capacitation.

Maybe you should borrow your friend's inhaler.

Open up the old bronchial tubes. see what that does for ya.

Nah.. thats wrong. wasnt perscribed to you. technically, it is a narcotic.

a weird one.

but a narcotic.

you dont do drugs.

you'll be fine.

just get some rest.

you'll feel better come morning.

i promise.

smoking is not "bad". ethics plays a roll if the second hand affects your family or friends, but that's it. it is bad for you, yes, but not "bad". if you want to make that choice in your life, go head, but make sure you realize the choice you are making. the longer you smoke, the harder it'll be to break the habit.

some simple rationalization.

The brass monkey flies at midnight.
hey I can steal stuff from the net too..

quote:
OXYGEN

Oxygen is a very toxic gas and an extreme fire hazard. It is fatal in
concentrations of as little as 0.000001 p.p.m.. Humans exposed to
these oxygen concentrations die within a few minutes. Symptoms resemble
very much those of cyanide poisoning (blue face, ect.). In higher
concentrations, e.g. 20%, the toxic effect is somewhat delayed and it
takes about 2.5 billion inhalations before death takes place. The
reason for the delay is the difference in the mechanism of the toxic
effect of oxygen in 20% concentration. It apparently contributes to a
complex process called aging, of which very little is known, except
that it is always fatal.

However, the main disadvantage of the 20% oxygen concentration is in
the fact it is habit forming. The first inhalation (occurring at
birth) is sufficient to make oxygen addiction permanent. After that,
any considerable decrease in the daily oxygen doses results in death
with symptoms resembling those of cyanide poisoning.

Oxygen is an extreme fire hazard. All of the fires that were reported
in the continental U.S. for the period of the past 25 years were found
to be due to the presence of this gas in the atmosphere surrounding
the buildings in question.

Oxygen is especially dangerous because it is odorless, colorless and
tasteless, so that its presence can not be readily detected until it
is too late.

I quit smoking one year ago. It was living hell. The cravings got to me totally, I was nearly getting really depressed. There was no hapiness in my life at all, because whatever I did, I knew I could never have that cigarette afterwards to enjoy myself...

Now it's all gone. I am relaxing, breathing fresh air and enjoying that. You really need to stop smoking, it IS bad for you. You do not want to imainge your self, and your state of health 15 years from now.

hot tip: while you stop smoking, start running.

Posted by PETRAN on May-24-2004 11:24:

wow, that was f*cking trippy yeah.

Probably its something like a panic desorder or anxiety disorder, where where subconscious stress causes hyper-ventilation.

But maybe its something else that this guy wants to tell us...like there is no place to find some peace...

little over a month later, i havent been in the basement at all since... tis not the mold. perhaps it is time for a change in lifestyle?
