Best Restaurants in Montreal?

Hey Montreal TA's, I need your advice.

I live in Toronto, but have been working at my company's Longueuil office for each of the past 8 weeks and living in a hotel. As the hotel rooms have no kitchen, and all of my living expenses are paid for, I've been doing a lot of dining out - every night, in fact. Let's just say that if you've seen a guy eating alone at a nice restaurant lately, it was probably me.

Over the past 8 weeks, I've managed to completely run out of ideas for new places to eat. I've wandered many nights along St-Laurent, St-Denis, Mont-Royal, and Ste-Catherine, without a clue as to which restaurants are really the best.

So that's where you come in - can anyone recommend good places to eat? If you could go anywhere in the city and didn't have to pay for it, where would you go?

Queue de Cheval <-- lovely meat
Baton Rouge <-- lovely baby backribs
Movempick <-- it's good
La Moulerie <-- for mussels

I think u should check out Prince Arthur - they got nice restaurants there - mostly greek, but good food, with good seafood and the area is just really nice...

Look for restaurants in hotels - i dunno any but they usually have good restaurants in good hotels.

i think most off the ppl on this board will tell u- amir takes the pot

Posted by DamnDirtyApe on May-23-2004 16:14:

Okay, thanks but could you also tell me the locations of these places?

Posted by Deejiuana on May-23-2004 16:36:

Baton Rouge: Right in front of the Place Des Arts metro station exit on St. Catherine - It's right next to Music World

Queue de Cheval: Right next to Sheraton Hotel on Rene Leveque

Movempick: Place Ville Marie

La Moulerie: Van Horn i believe

u might also wanna check Newtown on Crescent (Upper floor) Pure French cuisine which doesnt satisfy everyone.

Hotels, well, i dunno - u got a lot of choices

for the prince arthur restaurants, it's after the cross of St.Laurent and Prince Arthur - just go inside and u'll c them all....

Amir = good arabic food although there are others which are 1000 better (Abou Elias - fkn DAMN)

Anyway, that's all i can think of right now...

Hi,
depend what you mean by the best retaurants?
If you are talking about the real best restaurants, you should look for these ones:

Cube (Hotel St-Paul) best Montreal restaurant
Le Toqu (Palais des Congrs)

La Queue de Cheval (Over priced steak house, everything taste the same but still ok)

Posted by John_H2O on May-23-2004 18:34:

hey hey

restaurant that my way! I study to become a cook

Queue de cheval is a really good one, but if you check on st-Laurent we have
Le Blanc (one of the best beef in Montreal Angus AAA), Buena Nuote to see some movie actor.
Au pied de cochon ( 536 Duluth between st-hubert and St-Denis...very good duck) restaurant 737 as the night club (1 place Ville-Marie)
La Chronique, very high level food and flavor but $really$ expensive (Laurier west of St-Laurent)
La Milsa, Bresilian grill, one of my best restaurant to eat meat on grill, very good. Bresilian girls not include in the price (Bishop between Ste-cath and maisonneuve)
L'express, the best Bistro Francais in Montreal, nice food and not super expensive but need a resevation. (St-denis/marianne)
Chez Toke, on St-denis and other high level food.

I will stop 'cause i can suggest you 100 different restaurants, these are in the my top 10, but i couldn't try all the goods in montreal ;(

So if you want a very good experience, check it man!

Wow, what an amazing response, thanks so much! Too bad next week is only 4 days!

I should have asked this question weeks ago. One more question - what is considered "expensive"? I know here in Toronto the most expensive restaurants can be around $40+ for a main course alone, and that's a little out of my budget frankly!

im sure you can find a meal more expensive than that in toronto

John_H2O, Toqu is spell like this : Toqu and not Toke and it's no more on St-Denis.
As for Leblanc steaks, it's far too be the best. As for Angus AAA, that dosen't mean it's good. It has to come from USA and be USDA Prime beef dry aged for sure. There is no really good steak house in Montreal. United States offer way better Steak house. There is even no steakhouse in Montreal that offer beef from Wagyu cattle wich is not normal.

La Chronique, I have been disapointed my 2 times there. And the decor of the place is not my type.

The best restaurant in town is Cube : www.restaurantcube.com

If you are looking for fish or seafood, Milos is the best.

Best wine selection: Bistro Champlain

It's easy to go more than 40$ for the main course in Steak House, a 3-4 pounds lobster will cost you over 150$ at Queue de Cheval.

I think 40-45$ is about the maximum price you can pay in Montral for a main course normally in the best restaurants. Toronto restaurants are not more expensive than here in Montreal and are not better also.

Posted by kate on May-23-2004 22:44:

Mmmm Milos is amazing, definitely try that place.

Posted by fastmp3 on May-23-2004 22:53:

i suggest Entrecote Saint-Jean , it's a french restaurant and they propose only one typical menu : entre with a soup , then a salad , then steack-frites , then a dessert

it won't cost you more than 40 bucks (tip drinks and taxes included) , the fries are out of this world , and the sauce that comes with the steack is great too , i highly suggest it

it's near Maisonneuve and Peel , i'm not too sure

Posted by mastercongo on May-23-2004 23:46:

milos is good for sure.

if you are up north you should try gibby's :P

that's the best restaurant up around here i think. (st sauveur) plus some really nice small ones, by the locals.
