Big Ears my first trance attempt - feedback please!

I just recently got into the world of trance and I would like some constructive feedback on how I am coming along so far. Here is my link:

Kotus - Fish and Chips and Salsa

Love your choice of instrumentation here. The leads are really great. The drum loop seems a little "canned" but still cool. The sweep at 1:50ish is dark and kinda cool. The best thing about the song is the melody.

NOW...

Please visit the threads above about Mastering and Mixing... because you haven't done any EQing or Mastering. Bass and Pads are murky and blend together too much...the drum loop is subdued by colliding frequencies and the whole thing needs to be crisper and cleaner overall.

This may be the toughest part...trust me. I just finished mine and a song is only 1/3 done after creation (then mixing then mastering!).
Please have a listen to mine below too and feedback!

Regards!

EDIT: BTW, I love the title...wish I thought of that! LOL

Thanks for the reply. I agree with what you say, cuz I thought it sounds somewhat distorted in places too...

Anyone else want to comment?

Ok b4 I go, this is my first time reviewing a song here so don't ask why you don't know me.

This song is pretty good! But the stucture is off, its not patterned enough... What I would do is start off with the beginning, same as you, but after the main pattern has repeated 8 times go into something that is slower (at the very end you faded into something that sounded perfect for this part @ 3:23) and then use the stuff you have in the middle to build up and fade back into the main theme again. Or, if you want to keep the middle the way it is, it must repeat its self a few times (like 8 times) and be made shorter (4 or 8 bars long)

So, over all I dunno if any of this will make sence to you... but i think the song will sound great when finished with or with out my help! Just remember with out a trance structure its not trance.

Thank you Silver Bass for your excellent advice. I uploaded the updated version now, which I think is much improved but the drums probably still need help...

i like how it sounds. very original imo, not cliche.

Like was already said. Add some structure and beats.

yeah get some GOOD beats and you'll be set

Ok, but I am having trouble finding some drum hits that fit in...are there any good techniques other than just trial and error?

Generally, try and listen to some songs that are similar to your track and pay close attention to the percussion. What is coming in on the third beat, the second (if it isnt a clap), and the velocity of each beat is important too! Get the feel of it.

Then find some GOOD samples...(I LIKE THIS SITE)for your drum kits.

Drums are my biggest weakness too...using a step sequencer that has a looping playback feature works well...lay down the kick and let it loop back for a few measures continually adding elements like hihats, claps, etc until you have just the right pattern! VOILA!!

good luck bro!
