Did they really add Oakenfold to the Carl Cox/Ritchie Hawtin Line up?

If they did this gets a big Thumbs down from me..

Thats like adding a country star to a death metal rock concert in my opinion.

The only good thing might be that this will educate Jokenfold fans as to what a real DJ sounds like.

too bad for you cuz they really did !

Posted by Jayx1 on May-23-2004 21:23:

I honestly cant see hawtin playing at the same party as Jokenfold...

Thats just rediculous. It even takes away from coxy.

This is garbage...

Oakenfold and his 2 hour preplanned sets just doesnt do it for me

Here's an idea...how about you stay in the room where Oakenfold is NOT playing?

Posted by Jayx1 on May-23-2004 21:30:

because id like to hear cox....

and im assuming cox and oakenfold will be in the same room since richies parties are always an exclusive event and he is very particular about setting the mood of his parties.

Also, oakenfold never plays more than 2 hours. When his last record runs out, so does he. Hes only in it for the $$$ sadly..

Posted by Chinaman on May-23-2004 21:38:

I too am not a huge fan of Oakey either BUT who really cares? We get Carl Cox and Richie Hawtin?

If you wanna stay away from the Guv altogether, either the Docks or Boa (PLEASEEEEEE BOA) will have Tenaglia!

Also, just stay away from whatever room Oakey is playing at for 2 hours!? Problem solved...

Posted by Jayx1 on May-23-2004 21:41:

Its just a chalk and cheese scenerio.

I dont get it... ritchie, cox and oakenfold can all pull a huge crowd on their own.

Ritchie in one room and Cox in the other was a perfect balance. All Oakenfold is going to do is attract the Gino element.

Im 99% a supporter of what goes on at Guv but this is a serious lapse of judgement IMO.

Posted by mot10n on May-23-2004 21:43:

here's another idea: put up with oakenfold. could that be so hard? brave him out, and then go off to cox and hawtin. not too hard.

Posted by Jayx1 on May-23-2004 21:54:

But you dont get it.. the 2 just dont mix... and the crowds wont either.

The better idea is to book Oakenfold for another thursday the same as they did for tiesto and PVD.

Or put oakenfold in one room and cox or ritchie (not both) in the other..

Jay...how much of Oakey's Thirst set last August did you catch?

Posted by Jayx1 on May-23-2004 22:10:

All of it actually

ouch

Posted by Jayx1 on May-23-2004 22:13:

sorry dude... but its the truth. Not saying that all oakie's fans are ginos though so dont worry...

LOL

Like i said... the upside to this is that Oakenfold fans will be exposed to the banging hard techno that is Carl Cox. He's going to blow Oakenfold out of the water.

i see the politics of dancing are hard at work

ya now its tiesto.. get with the times people

Posted by Jayx1 on May-24-2004 00:02:

Other than the fact that i dont like oakenfold i dont have a problem with him or his fans. They just shouldnt be having them both in the same room on the same night.

Posted by crazedcanuck on May-24-2004 08:40:

Man, looks like he's opening the room, or @ least the first international DJ playing, so hit up the lounge or the patio, do something else.

I can understand you not liking the guy or his sets, but no need to bitch and whine incessantly.

sorry for my ignorance, but what party are we talking about? lol

edit: nevermind, canada day, z00t

Did you go to Bittersweet at the docks in 2002?

The main room saw the fans of Andy C, DJ Dan and Misstress B all pass through the same room on the same night, and people still gave incredible reviews.

The Guv complex is trying to model these all access events after the giant parties in the UK - gatecrasher, etc. Obviously the scale is smaller, but if they can have Coxy and Oakie at the same jam, why can't guv?

Don't be so sure about Oakie playing in the same room as Cox or Hawtin....Neither Cox nor Hawtin could fill the Kool Haus alone, but together they would do it.

Posted by Jayx1 on May-24-2004 15:39:

You dont think Cox or Hawtin could fill a room as big as guv?

I beg to differ.

Ive seen them fill rooms three times the size routinely...

Real Question: Do you really see these two on par as being equal in terms of success/ history and generating the right crowd? I've just been led to believe that Cox is in a different (be it higher) league than Richie. (just asking your techno advice)

Posted by Jayx1 on May-24-2004 15:46:

They are both equally important and talented in the Electronic music scene. Ritchie was one of the pioneers of techno for god sake!

As for Cox, hes been around almost as long and has different roots but he basically took Detroit and went with it into his own style (after he finished playing happy hardcore that is) heheheh

Ive been to Plastikman parties that drew partiers from all over North america. Everyone i met was from somewhere exclusively for the party.

No, I meant Kool Haus.

It doesn't matter that you've seen them pack a stadium of people ELSEWHERE - that's entirely my point. One of those guys could not fill Kool Haus because this is Toronto. The techno scene is ridiculously small now.

Richie played KH a couple of years ago with Acquaviva, and while busy, it wasn't rammed - and that was back when the scene was much much healthier.

I think techno will be in KH - Cox, Hawtin, Magda and Aquaviva.

It's like comparing apples to oranges...Hawtin did a lot for techno, Cox has done much for the electronic sound in general.
