New posts/replies as RSS feeds?

Is there such thing already?

If not then would love to see RSS feeds from the forum. Ideal situation would be RSS feed for every forum section.

The feed could have title of the post, who wrote/replied to it, time and link to the post of course. And if only one feed used then the forum section.

What is RSS feed?

RSS is a format for syndicating news and the content of news-like sites, including major news sites like Wired, news-oriented community sites like Slashdot, and personal weblogs. But it's not just for news. Pretty much anything that can be broken down into discrete items can be syndicated via RSS: the "recent changes" page of a wiki, a changelog of CVS checkins, even the revision history of a book. Once information about each item is in RSS format, an RSS-aware program can check the feed for changes and react to the changes in an appropriate way.

Basically RSS feed is an xml file which contains the things I mentioned in my first post. Then you just need a program which downloads that xml file and parses it...

Its point would be

You don't have to come to the site to see what new posts/replies there are.

but what is the point in that, can you not just click on a saved link to go to the forums...

kinda defeats the whole point of a forums if you dont ever go on them.

Clicking on the saved link doesnt bring you to the new post you find interesting, right?

Actually it could easen the load on the server.
And IMHO it doesn't defeat the point of a forum,
it just makes using it easier and faster, because you see new topics while you're doing something else and if you find it interesting you just click on it and the voila you're at the post.

Disagree...

Actually it would just need modifications to some php files and a function to update the xml file(s).

But that is just up to swamper..

What's wrong with just making a desktop Internet shortcut to:

Nothing wrong with it... But it is not the same as RSS feed...

Already have it there, but I'm so lazy that I'd like to see newposts in "realtime" when I'm on my comp. So that I don't have to sit on the refresh button.
