Smiley DJ DeepSky...what do you ppl think about them,

Whats the word on TA about Deepsky (J. Scott and Jason Blum)

I think they spin some kick ass proggressive trance i never hear any talk about them here at TA.What do ppl think?

In Silico was bad ass

Their newer stuff sounds too similar to Hybrid IMO...their earlier stuff owns though, tracks like 'stargazer' and 'cosmic dancer' were great.

hybrid is OWNAGE!!!!!!!!

Hm, they seem to be nice guys. I like some of their productions. However, on the whole, I found In Silico to be technically accomplished but it did not seem to stand out to me -- simply because I had heard the likes of BT and Hybrid do a number of the sonic techniques in the album earlier, so I didn't really get a feel that Deepsky's unique style was really standing out. But it's a good continuation if you like more of the same. For example, "Let Me Live" is a nod in parts of "Finished Symphony". I like it.

LOL, funny -- I just posted and then saw your post.

It has to do mainly with some types of effects processing and st-t-t-t-t-ttttttttuttter edits, you're right. Even Hybrid aren't really doing that anymore themselves. They know they've mastered that, so they are moving on.

When's the next Deepsky full-length? late 2004?

Deepsky's in Austin, Tx this Friday... looking forward to it, I am sure it will be fun

I think they're pretty cool. I love the first song of their In Silico album: View From a Staircase (maybe the title is w/ Stairway or something).

They are great producers, most of the music I've heard from them is quality stuff.

Posted by E-vangelist on May-26-2004 14:41:

I've seen them live twice and they kicked ass both times.
definitely worth going to see

It took me a while to appreciate In Silico. It's deeper and more progressive than their earlier work, but technically brilliant and full of depth.

Still, I love Deepsky's hard progressive trance style from the late nineties the most, alongside the productions of Christopher Lawrence, X-Cabs, and Sandra Collins. Deepsky and Cosmic Dancer are just untouchable. I really wish they would make more in this sound, though most everyone who used to play desert trance hopped on the progressive wagon years ago, save Christopher Lawrence.

Its called "View from Stairway" beautifully down with a classical guitar its fucking

Tracks like View from stairway is what makes deepsky stand out from all the others Imo

I Seen them Once along with DlFuse last November here in houston.Although i was a little disapointed with deepskys LIve set which a was little short in my eyes.

I wish Deepsky would put more stuff out...I got a mix cd when I was first getting into electronic that has Stargazer on it, and wow....that's all I could say. i had never heard anything quite like it, and i loved it.....still do.

so basically, I [heart] Deepsky

Does any one know whats the proper name of them electronic drums Deepsky uses in there live set.I want to get some of those but i dont know what to call them.

Deepsky's older stuff is much better than the new.
I think they are trying new things but other artists are beating them to the punch, so it sounds like they are trying to copy other peoples shit.

Yes, I think that's a good assessment of their current state.

For some of their techniques, they were definitely inspired and influenced by other artists predating them. Not that this is a bad thing -- but simply, there was prior music commercially released, as well as musical philosophy, that they were attracted to and chose to explore in their own way. One instance of the former being the Hybrid/BT/Andy Page st-t-t-tutter edits, one instance of the latter being the vision of the "complete virtual studio" (which is awfully common nowadays - but at the time there were still a lot of doubters of this notion). Only problem is, I found they got the technical aspects downpat but the unique Deepsky style didn't shine out quite as much as I had wished (although I did like elements like the previously-mentioned guitar, and their collaboration with Saffron).

I look forward to what Deepsky's next LP will hold.

Smiley DJ I Saw Them Live!!!

I saw Deepsky live in Chicago back in 2000 I believe it was, and I must say I was impressed with their performance. They put on an awesome show. They did their remix of Markus Schulz - You'll Never See My Cry (I hope I spelled it right), it was awesome. Haven't been keeping up with them lately though, but I'll never forget their show back on 2000.
