Worm Popper Spin Doctor - Paranoid Dancer [192Kbps]

Ive already posted this track before, however that was the old inferior 96kbps rip, now its available at 192kbps! I know many people shy away from reviewing low bit rate rips, so hopefully Ill get a bit of a better response.

Its a dark, techy trance number, and while its by no means my first tune, it is the first tune that Ive honestly been pleased with the final result, and think its of good enough quality to let others hear it. I used Reason for the main substance of the tune, but the lead was created in Fruity Loops (on the TS404) and imported to Reason.

Spin Doctor - Paranoid Dancer (High)
[9:37, 135 BPM, 13.2 MB, 192 Kbps]
Spin Doctor - Paranoid Dancer (Low)
[9:37, 135 BPM, 6.61 MB, 96 Kbps]

A massive thank you to Fraz for hosting this for me, look out for a tune from the both of us soon!

Hi,
The intro is pretty nice but its thin, you should add a substring or something to fill it up (same with the break). The bass is too weak.
The main lead reveals the fruityness in your track . I really think you should change it or add some additional layers to it, cause now it sounds pretty cheap with only the rave sound standing out. Kick needs to be harder. You got some nice ideas , i like the psy feeling in the track. Keep working on it .

Nice reversed clap. Am I right?

Percussion/hihats stand out pretty nicely.

Some synths are so thin. Layer up... The main lead melody is pretty nice.

Sad

damn man
what kinda drugs are u on?
ur stuff is so scary lol
its like a Jason from friday 13th music

good track again but still scary

As the others have said it's a bit thin in parts, but I like the feeling overall (yes, it's quite scary sounding, but I don't mind a bit of darkness)

If I was better at producing I could imagine making a 140bpm tech-trance version

Thank you to everyone who took the time to leave some comments. I apologise for not posting my thanks in this thread earlier, Im not ungrateful, just possess a poor memory!

ManTrance: As forgetful as me it seems.

EternalMusic: I would make the changes you suggested, but mentally Ive moved on from this now and dont really fancy going back to it, and secondly, the Reason file has collapsed, so unfortunately, even if I wanted to I couldnt go back to this again, short of building it from the bottom up.

Thunder5: Spot on with the reversed clap! Doing the perc line is both my favourite part of making a track, and the thing I think Im best at too.

Sunquest:he he he! Wouldnt you like to know! I make the sort of music I like to spin, so thats why you get what you do from me. One day though, Ill make a nice happy un-scary one just for you.

DjSimonB: As I said the Reason file has collapsed, but I think I still have the flps where I made the main rift, though Ill need to check. So if youd like those, PM me and perhaps we can sort something out, if I still have them.

Thanks once again to everybody, and once more my apologies for the lateness of the reply. Time to get back on the wagon me thinks, I havent done any reviews, or production for that matter, in a long time.

I really like the ideas and the overall sound of this, sounds very different from most of the stuff being released nowadays. But as mentioned, this sounds too thin the way it is now. Kick needs to be beefier, intro sounds empty and the riff is too simple. It's really too bad that you won't keep working on this, as the potential is really great. Therefore, I will pass it on to Haak and pester him into making a remix/remake of it. I think the results could be rather good

Orate, I'm getting File Not Found on the high quality one.

Sand Leaper: Wow thanks for those comments! Hmm, perhaps I will. Perhaps Ill give it a while so I can disconnect from the track if that makes sense, and give it another crack. Overall, I have been very pleased with the feedback from this track, so perhaps there is some talent in me somewhere!

Spad: Fraz must have taken it down, Ill MSN you the high rate one.

wow this sounds fuckin mint!! good shit m8! very dark tech-trance...the only thing i would probly make less often is that screaming sound
the track is wicked m8!! getting the 192kbps version now.
good luck in the future! btw, if Haak were to make a rmx im pretty sure the ep would make it to a label!

cheers

edit: ...damn

I think you have opened the new genere!!!!
Its called:
DARK TRANCE
and remember people that I said Dark Trance first!

Posted by Spad on Jul-23-2004 13:04:

Wow, this has such an evil atmosphere! Really really good atmosphere

I think the intro could do with being a bit more varied...it starts of great but I kept expecting a bit more to come in....I'm thinking maybe some more percussion, in a really techy style. Not too much tho coz I think this tune comes across as pretty minimalist and it works really well.

Also the kick sounds a bit muddy (but I'll make my standard disclaimer about my stereo being shit).

Anyway I really, really like this. I think it could do with a bit more work tidying it up, maybe some EQ'ing. But it's definetly something to be proud of; very original too. If you can't be bothered to go back to it, maybe try and get a remix sorted?

Really refreshing stuff I'm going to go hide in the cupboard now

Thanks for the feeedback boss!

Ive taken all the comments on board, and you should, hopefully, see some improvement in the next couple of tunes I release...especially in the Kick Drum department! Ive been working hard to make a collection of uber-punchy kicks (i.e. Paul Glazby style), and now Im building some tracks around them.

BOSH!

had to judge it on the lo-fi file as the hifi was down
I really like the intro
cool sounds and atmosphere.. but the pitch bending sound is obviously a ripoff of johannes heil's paranoid dance which is a pitty (or you should've called it a remix -i know it's only a small sound but that is one of your major ideas of the song, so it's one of the most important lines)
The synths are pretty nice but I didn't quite like the build-up. Too slow and not much happening, maybe shorten it for 2 minutes and bring in some new elemnts ?
keep 'em coming

Posted by Spin Doctor on Aug-18-2004 01:11:

Thanks for the thoughts DeZmA.

Yes, I did copy the idea of the wail/moan from Johannes Heil. But, I think the tunes are significantly different enough to warrant calling this one my own (I don't even know if the tunes are in the same Key, or even if the wail is the same note or anything), and not a remix. I kept the name though to show where I got the idea from. And In any event, I seem to remember that Heil borrowed that from an old Hardcore/Ravey track, though I could be wrong on that.
