ive been djing for about 1 month now and 1 out of every 5 mixies i do are crazy but all the others suck ass, what do you think my problem could be ,is my timing off the pitch off, bass, mids ,overal volume weight,tracks that im trying to mix together. (i spin trance music) can someone please give me some major tips on how to mix properly cause i think maybe my friend who taught me how to dj taught me wrong .

so when ever one of you pros read this thread if you have a minute or two can you please just give me a "lession" so to speak on how to mix good

all i can say from my experience is that if you get 1 out of 5 after a month, you're a f**king GOD! DJing needs some serious practice...
Listen closely to those mixes that you like and try to find out why they are better than the others...without hearing you mix, we can't say what you are doing wrong.

How did your friend teach you? You might need to be untaught. But I bet one of the problems is your trying to mix completely different songs. To make it easier on you and the mix sound better, get songs similar so the mix is more together. Find transition points in your songs 'outros' and 'intros'. Study the songs before just jumping into the mix.

took me about half a year before i could put together like a one hour set with only 1 error or sumpin

no-one taught me tho

+ i love long long transitions

by now after 2 years hell i hardly make errors anymore....well

i would suggest two things.

practice practice practice like everyone says.

and see if you can't rig up a way to record your set, so you can play it back. it will be easier to pick apart your mixing while listening to it than while mixing.

start off with easy tracks to mix,, eg Hard house records.. no disrespect to Hard house djs ferige is wicked... but get some tracks that are kinda the same,, beat etc and get that going first.. going allout first up with insane trance tracks that have all kinds of build ups and break downs is gonna be hard and u will wonder"can i actually do this!!" its like trying to learning swimming in the deep end man.. not a good idea..

another way to begin djing is to see how a friend does, any copy it... 1-2 week like that and then start to mix at home..

listen to some of your favorite mixes and try to do the same thing on your decks..........i dont mean go out and end up spinning the same set.......i mean listen closely and see why those mixes/transitions worked so well. Then try to incorporate those techniques into your own mixes.

watching other dj's spin is a good way to learn to & its fun

im about there after 5 months, 1 error or so in 60-90 mins, either an *almost-trainwreck* like you can start to hear the beats or something idiotic like not starting on the right beat, even if they're matched.

and i love long drawn out mixes too. i guess i have time yet, eh pjotr??

of course maybe my ear's just getting better and more picky, so im being more critical. your ear REALLY picks up as you go, im not even impressed by oakie's ny GU mixing.... into lustral - everytime. he goes on a 4-count instead of 8, i was listenin today

I say: The more you practice the better your mixes will be!

Try practising more around the pitch section...
after you`ll get that one right... you can start making your
own style of mixing...
