Help! Need to fix hissing problem on turntables

My roommate owns a pair of Gemini turntables that are probably 5 or 6 years old by now. I forget the model of them, but they are a decent set and are direct drive. Lately we have been experiencing a lot of hissing (especially when there are vocals with "s's"). We bought a new sylus for both and tried adjusting the tone arm weight, still no luck. Does anyone know a fix for this problem. Thanks,

Greg

Faulty wiring and/or poor grounding, imo

I will go through my usual checklist when approaching this problem...
1) Are the ground wires securely attached to the mixer's ground screw? They should be...
2) Are the turntables and mixer on the same strip or outlet? They should be...
3) (A new one to me) Is there a lamp or something else present or near the setup that could produce interference? It shouldn't be...
4) Are all the RCAs plugged in fully? They should be....

Maybe that will help

Thanks for the help guys. I will make sure all the things you mentioned are looked into. I'll let you know if I find anything.
