My mom doubts I have this, even though I've been diagnosed with it...

http://www.aacap.org/publications/factsfam/69.htm

Just about everything in there applies to me, except for special education. I've already been diagnosed with that by several doctors and a psychiatrist, and I'm on medications... and my mom says that she thinks I dosn't have it. What do you think?

Posted by Rodrico on May-31-2004 01:06:

Dr. Rod thinks you have it.

Your mom ignorant by any chance?

Posted by wienerschnitzel on May-31-2004 01:08:

i think maybe your mom doesn't want to admit that something could be wrong with her boy?

Yes, she is. Very ignorant. If I wasn't saving up for turntables, I would of run off to canada by now. I mean, I kept this god damn computer running smoothly while my older brother was gone, and she dosn't give me any god damn credit for it unless she's having problems with one of her programs, most of which are very easy to fix.

Most likely.

Dude, no offense, but I think that at 13 you should probably not be thinking of running away.

Posted by getfoul on May-31-2004 02:07:

i was thinking the same thing. and for the cost of turntables, how far is that going to get you?

Posted by davinox on May-31-2004 02:10:

yeah, you're fucked up

Posted by Rodrico on May-31-2004 02:28:

whether you have it or not kid, listen, you work for your money, every penny, and you buy those turntables. Practice on them as much as you can, at 13, thats a very early start, in a few years you will see how good you will get. Then, you will be laughin when your headlining and being praised as a world class DJ, just work your ass off, and you can have all that and then some. Dont let these fools say anything less.

Isn't Asperger's a mild fom of autism?

Posted by Vlad on May-31-2004 02:40:

If people with this disease have coordination problems, how do you expect to be able to DJ? In order to beatmatch properly, you need to have very very good coordination.

My coordination and attention span isn't all that great. But there are people who have dyslexia that can read well. How? By practice. I've been concing in TFC for about 2 years now, and it's helped out in my coordination. But that's just for throwing around concs. I suck in real life. But practice will help in DJing. I'm going to work my ass off like Rod said, and get some TT's to start practicing. I'll tell my mom that they'll help keep me off the computer and will help my coordination. I mean, they will... won't they?

EDIT: And also, you're saying that someone with dysgraphia or dyslexia wouldn't ever be able to write or read well. You're wrong. I've had to work hard to achieve things others can achieve easily. My art skill use to be that of a 3rd or 4th grader. With practice, I'm slowly raising it. I'm not saying that I'm going to be great at beatmatching within a couple of days, months, or even years after getting my TT's. But practice will make me better at it. If you try to discourage me, then I'll just try harder to prove you wrong.[/motivational talk]

K-Badger, have you read the first paragraph of the link you posted?
quote:
Asperger's Disorder is the term for a specific type of pervasive developmental disorder which is characterized by problems in development of social skills and behavior.

Don't you think you should work on your social skills/behaviour first? I mean, unless you live in a place where trance is extremely popular, you ain't gonna make any improvement on this (in fact, you're gonna alienate yourself more and more, it seems, as you'll slowly become more and more different from the other kids).

That's what it seems.

Posted by Vlad on May-31-2004 03:13:

Good point Lira...

And Kami, Im not trying to discourage you from DJing, Im just trying make sure you dont make a mistake getting into this - alot of people get into DJing thinking that its something they want to do, but in the end realize its not for them. Since your so young, I dont want you to make a mistake into spending a load of cash that, for you, you dont have alot of.

By playing some DI.FM at school during art class, most of the kids liked it. And this was cheese, people. I'll get some high quality trance, and try to have the school let me spin a mix of electronica and hip hop at a dance. That way, they'll get a mix of good music, and some of it will be something new.

Its a thought, but cheese is usually what most people will like. Trust me, most of them wont like real trance - there might be a few kids that are interested, but most of them would want to hear stuff like Agnelli & Nelson - Nothing, the more vocals, the better.

Posted by Kamikaze Badger on May-31-2004 03:31:

Hmmm, and the local radio station plays some DJ Sammy...

SPINNING CHEESE ROCKS!

You still should join the soccer team or something similar. Even if you want to do something related to music, you shouldn't choose something so lonely as DJ'ing/producing music (whereas you can DJ solo and produce everything yourself, in a rock band, for example, you would need to deal every minute with other people in order to play something).

Also, being in a band will help you interact with other people and eventually you will have to get on stage and perform. You know what, fuck band, do ANYTHING that involves team work, not just soccer, but ANY sport. Im sorry, but I think with the 'condition' you might have and your age, DJing might not be in your best interest... at the age of 13 and having a social problem THE LAST thing you should do is lock yourself in your room being a bedroom DJ.

Atleast the majority of us that do spend alot of time DJing, are old enough to go out and enjoy ourselves and clubs and what not. But you cant even do that, your 5 years away, which is a while to be locked up.

Wow, am I surprised to see this.

I have Asperger's. Hence why I am the "aspergian".

If you'd like to talk more about it, let me know... or visit the boards over at Aspergia.com where there is plenty of discussion.

This might serve to be a more informative link:
