read in the herald-sun that pappa would be appearing at Room680 during July, anyone able to confirm/deny this?

Check out the cd cover, Pap's needs to do something about those eyebrows, especially for the big close up on the cover. He's only half a dozen hairs away from monobrow territory.

its good that dj's like him aren't making themselves 'marketable resources' and are relying on their talents....

"Born in the Australian outback and raised by wild dingoes, Anthony Pappa was a child prodigy when the Avalanches were mere snowballs on a mountainside"

he was raised in the jungle, what do u expect hahah

he is awesome - so diverse in his music and very technically skilled. An awesome DJ both to watch him spin and to groove to.

Posted by gumble on Jun-10-2004 13:08:

what are ppls thoughts on the cd?

005 was always going to be a damn tough act to follow, but Pappa has taken a wicked direction, particulary with cd1.

only one track and mix im not too sure about, steve may - open day (chable mix)

i dunno, only thing that slightly spoiled an otherwise well programmed deep melodic mix...

cd2, only listenend to half so far, got involver on again

but yer, cd1 is wicked, im very much liking it!

Posted by djway on Jun-10-2004 17:48:

Given both CD's about 10 listens, and find it rather boring. A few fresh tracks, but it's not a whole other level like 005 is. Mind you Pappa isn't really my style either(don't like breaks, and don't like much plod), where as I've always had a soft spot for Holden and his styles.

djway rating = 3/10

yep just heard both cd's recently. its actually not too bad although i agree that its def not as good as 005, but then again i too have always loved holden's style

Posted by sweetchilli on Jun-11-2004 05:04:

i dont think you can compare the 2...
2 totally different Cds but both awesome in there own unique way....

pappa was never going to be like holden and viceversa!

Exactly. Like apples and oranges. Every1 prefers 1 over the other (or likes them equally). Totally different products, but they still get compaired coz they are both pieces of fruit.

I know a lot of people really rate Pappa's efforts and I can see why, but @ the same time my lack of love for the CDs keeps on growing on each listen.

The March/May promo of Pappa's also doesn't do it for me....I respect him, but I don't enjoy him.

Thought i might bring this thread back from the abyss seeing how the event is on this weekend.

I like what he plays. Artists like Shiloh, Quivver, fretwell etc are all what im into lately so im looking forward to seeing him play although i do agree that i hope he plays abit different from his latest cd otherwise i hope there are alot of lounges around to sit and enjoy the music rather than dance to it.

Im looking forward to a dynamix prog set probably more than anything. He can really turn it on in the prog/trance department so its looking like its going to be a good event.

And djway..its all about repect man..PLUR
