Wht Bpm shud I spin at?
Jus wonderin wht Bpm would one spin progressive or tibal house.. 127-130 or 132-135.
whatever sounds good to you. I like to keep mine upbeat and around 135 er so. but you can always play at 130 or lower, it does give a different feeling to the music.
SO find something that suits your records.
I agree but for club play what wud U suggest I recently played a set at the club and I stuck to the 128-130 bpm range.. bur somehow felt I shud have peep'd it up more?
As Boomer said, just find something that suits your records.
Ultimately your BPM may be something that defines your particular style of playing.
Bottom line is that there is no answer other than if your records sound crap at the speed you play then it's wrong.
If you are are playing with other people then it's a different story as when you are playing and how the last guy played will all play a part.

I genuinely have no idea how fast i play bpm wise
I go by the feel of the record, the energy of the crowd and how it sounds when pitched up or down. If it sounds ridiculous then change it.
If you're spinning tribal and progressive (such as myself) I reckon a good bmp to start at is 132/134bmp and slowly work youself up to 136 or even 138 (eg Dj Rush). Its all about reading the crowd and at 3-4am when the club is at full energy everybody just goes wild to high bpms. I also love ending the night with some nice chillout breaks half an hour or so before the club closes. Although only the ones tripping on E are left by that time its the perfect ending for both them and me.

i agree with boomer.....do whatever feels right to u.....i personally pitch up certain types of prog...just gives alil more energy for my taste.....although keep in mind the more u pitch stuff up u will loose the range of sound.....i'm not an expert but it has been in my experience when u pitch up in the = 5/6/7 realm there will be sounds in the track that u won't hear ...but played @ =1/2/3 u will hear them.
higher bpm != more energy. It all depends on the record. There are some very mellow techno records @ 140 and some very rocking, peaktime progressive records @ 130. If you're not getting a response from the tunes you're playing, choose records with better energy and groove. Don't just up the bpm. A mellow, chilled progressive track @ 128 bpm won't rock much harder pitched to 135 (it would just sound odd).
Although I DO find that pitching techno DOWN will give it a whole different feel. I have some intec records that are pretty damn fast and driving, and at -4% they sound really awesome when put together with some good tech house or breaks. A good example you might recognize is Dirty Bass - Emotional Soundscape, a track Sasha was spinning about 6 months ago. He had to pitch it way down, but it sounded great.
I like to keep my stuff in the 132 range, but most of the stuff i play sounds great there. Depends on your style, the audience, a lot of things.
agreeing with the above post, check out zabiela's sound in motion CD. theres a track (the silence - acid attack) in there, very interesting. sounded like a weird prog track. i listened to it on the vinyl. it's actually like 138BPM techno.
things get interesting when messing with BPMs. furthermore, 45RPM DnB records can be mixed at 33RPM with breaks, and 33RPM breaks at 45 with DnB. fun, eh?
It's funny that I'm the only trance DJ in my group. Since the guys spin faster stuff, I'm always playing at about 145.
I cant imagine a lot of trance sounding good in the 145 area.... you don't inch it back when you take over?
