Hey,

I'm in Montreal, Canada. I'm just curious, what's the age to get in for majority of parties? Also, how many after hour clubs are there, and if you don't mind me asking, which is the largest?
That looks like a pretty good lineup, be sure to see Max's set, he seems to be just getting better and better everytime I hear him.

There are plenty of afterhours clubs in NyC....but depending on what you mean by afterhours....some go till 4 am...I wouldn't consider that afterhours by NyC standards. Sound Factory's Saturday nite party opens its doors around 11 and the club closes around 1 pm Sunday afternoon...give or take a couple of hours...the party has gone till 8 pm on Sunday. As far as trance goes...there is no one club to go hear that genre of musik now that Twilo has closed. Roxy has some good parties as far as trance...the new party at World on Friday nites is also good. A lot of clubs are 21+ but some parties thrown there are 18+. Dress is usually proper attire...ie no jeans, sneakers, t-shirts....but there are parties that are casual as well. It's all a matter of what club and what nite your there. The club may have two weekly parties in a weekend...and the two parties may be a diff as nite and day...Twilo on Fridays was casual attire, straight crowd, featuring dj's that spun many different generes of musik....from trance to techno and beyond....but Sat nites was gay crowd...with a resident dj who spun prog house, vocal house and tribal. Basically in NyC there are many many differents clubs to cater to many different people...there is not one big club...its just too big of a city to do that.

TheRizzler ...obviously....you've never been to nyc.
it's not like other palces(la, philly, canada, etc.) where clubs close at 2am. This is New York Fukin City. =)
most places go on all night till dawn, and ends wheneva the djs stops spinnin. So....expect to never sleep.

Hmmm, TwiloFreak I guess you've never been to Montreal
Cause our city is known as the North American Ibiza, we have over 6+ after hour clubs that fit 2000+, that play all variteys of techno, hiphop, and they all go till at least 11:00 a.m. On top of that we have day time after hours clubs too, plus all our other regular clubs go till 3:00, but they'll usually let you stay a bit longer and our drinking age is 18. I don't think you understand how much of a party city Montreal is, if you ever get the chance you should definitely come and check it out, but if you do..... wait until after the winter :P
But in all honesty, I haven't been to check out NyC, but I definitely will be coming to check it out, I've been supposed to for a while now, so I'll just keep checking in here with you guys to get some inside info if you don't mind
Twilochik, thx for all the info, it really is much apreciated.

Hey rizzler, i don't think he was saying bad things about Montreal. I think what TwiloFreak was saying is that NYC has this mistik about it. The city just has so much history that when DJs come and play, they put on an extra show because they are in NYC.

I've never been to Montreal, but plan to go this winter for a trip to Canada. I really want to go to Toronto, I've heard tons of stuff about it.

But NYC is definitely a place to check out music. The clubs have to catch up a bit now since alot of venues are being closed, but with that new clubs will take its place.

You wanna know wat its all about? Its all about being at the right place at the right time. Right now, NYC is doing really bad with its nightlife. Big Dj's dont come here as often now that our best club (Twilo) is shutdown. I just found out that Exit will be closed until mid October. Even though most of us arent fans of Exit, that place brings in 5000+ people on consecutive nights and thats a fact because my friend is a bouncer there.
I just got home from Sound Factory. They were playing some deep/tribal house tracks all night and the crowd was NOT into that genre. The sound system there is always a downer, speakers hang from the ceiling which gives you a headache, and the way the system is tuned - all the things i wanna hear in a song are vague because its over come by the loudness. Loud isnt good in that sense. My conclusion, NY isnt the place to be now.

Quickstep: I didn't think that he was putting down Montreal, and I hope it didnt appear that I was putting down NYC, because I definitely wasn't. I totaly understand what your saying about the mistikness, for sure, NYC is known for that. I just think that some people don't realize how well developped the club and dj scene is in some Canadian places, especially Montreal and Toronto.
Quickstep u should definitely come check Montreal, and when ever you're planning to, give me a shout, I'll tell you what's going on, and who's playing where. Like I said though, it's way better after the winter. Is that you doing the breaking at the bottom of the posts? Dam, I so want to start learning to break, it's killing me, my style is just all uprocking and what not, I can't hit the floor or do any stallz yet, and it's killing me!!!
Here's some links to a few of our clubs if you want to check em out, right now I would have to say Aria is my favorite, the lighting there is insane and it has an amazing setup.

It sounds as if NYC is just going threw a little phase, but that's probably a good thing, because most likely bigger and better clubs will start to open up. Things usualy do seem to work in a cycle, every place has to have a bit of down time.
Anyhow, I'm just curious how things are everywhere else, and I like to know what's going on in different places
