What is the best soundcard to use for recording?

Well that is, what is the most affordable best sound card to use for recording. Price range $100 to $500, I bought a Maudio Audiophile 2496, not very impressed with it, sound is ok and volume kinda low even though I have all the settings up high. What card do you use?

get an audigy card from creative labs. plus alot is about how good your speakers are.

what program do you use to record, that could be giving you low levels too. mine come out alright using cubase and izotope ozone.

I have the Audigy 1 soundcard, it's ok. Are you referring to the Audigy 2? But the speakers shouldn't affect the quality of your recording.

I heard MACs are good for music purposes.

LOL! Are you kidding with the Audigy? Get either M-Audio or Terratec for recording. Forget Creative Labs!

I'd say go M-Audio just record your mix at a louder volume with the program that your using.

Don't forget the Echo Mia - I have one and it works very well. Excellent sound and low latency. Even the tech support at Echo were very helpful when I couldn't get it to work.

With all the praise that the M audio gets. I have a feeling you need to tweak some settings to make it sound better. Or could be a crappy mixer

Very true. Creative Labs does not make good pro audio cards. They make cheese video game cards...thats it. Go with M-Audio Delta 1010 or anything by RME.

Behringer 700 that 5 channels mixer, and maybe it's the tweaking.

its your mixer.

my buddy recorded all of his vinyls to mp3 when he had a gemini. had to rerecord all of them when he got his vestax. the sound quality was so much different.

its your mixer. keep your audio card and buy a new mixer.

i just bought the M-Audio 2496 and its giving my computer seroius problems. The drivers were not meant for XP and either are the ones on the website... what a nightmare

Argh! So my Behringer 700 isn't good enough? Damn! Why does Djing has to be so expensive...

Posted by Zombie0729 on Jun-15-2004 03:19:

Well i found out M-Audio Delta Audiophile 2496 CANNOT be used w/ a processor over 2.6ghz... this is something i have a feeling not many knew about... so i figure i'd post it

Thanks for the info.

Yea i have a DJX700 also. Sound quality blows on the Recording Outputs. I decided to connect it to the booth outputs cuz it gave me control over the output volume to boost the volume. Give it a try.

Anthony.. why is that?? THats a weird defect. Are you talking about the PCI version or all of them?

I guess you get what you pay for... no wonder, I spend $200 on a mixer, $150 on a soundcard = moderate recording sound.

Posted by vhx1 on Jun-17-2004 09:04:

Also your needles will make a huge difference. What are you running? I am running Ortofon Nightclubs-S so the sound is decent. I just need a better soundcard. Your sound quality will only be as good as that of the weakest component in your setup

Posted by DjSway on Jun-17-2004 15:59:

Yeah my needles suck, $35 stantons something. I think it has to be my Behringer 700 mixer. I love it though, for $200 you can't beat that.

for $200 you could have bought a numark matrix 3 made by alesis. not a pioneer or vestax, but much betetr then the behringer. sound is better, features are better and its made a hell of a lot better.

i guess the processor can give the sound card too many instructions and it can cause problems. I've had to reformat 3 times already
