-- Dubya and the Pope this morning.

Dubya and the Pope this morning.

Did anyone see it or does anyone have a transcript of what was said? I woke up to it and honestly have to say that I couldn't understand 90% of what came out of the Pope's mouth. Poor old guy was rattling and shaking as he read his prepared words. Meanwhile Dubya and Laura did a good job looking interested--I don't know how anyone could understand what was being said! I mean, I have a pretty good idea, but still.

Bush has said that he communicates with others through body language and gut instinct. As for what the Pope said...

"You've been a very naughty boy go to your room and don't come down until your ready to repent."

god you never give it up, your worse than Bill Mahr

I think the AP news had a rough summary of what was said but I didn't see a full translation. Maybe the AP had a hard time understanding him too

Nice of Bush to stop by for a photo op with the pope to secure the Catholic vote. To bad had to listen to the Pope lecture him on his misdeeds.

In an apparent reference to the Abu Ghraib prison-torture scandal, the pope said: "In the past few weeks other deplorable events have come to light which have troubled the civic and religious conscience of all, and made more difficult a serene and resolute commitment to shared human values. In the absence of such a commitment neither war nor terrorism will ever be overcome."

Now, why the hell did Bush visit the pope again? And what's up with giving the pope a medal WTF?

I think they have to jump start the old pope with some meth or something to jolt him awake. Seems out of it in recent appearances.

From what I've heard and read it was a 'friendly' meeting, the pope's opposition to the war in Iraq wasn't to be raised. Short and sweet, no conflict - good PR for both of them

Well, after watching a video of it - the Pope did indeed get stuck into Bush. He made a couple of veiled remarks about the US policy with regards to the Middle East, and voiced his opposition to the war in Iraq. Bush just sat there grinning and looking more than a little uncomfortable.

I never thought I'd say this, but the Pope owns!

I feel really fortunate to have been able to see this amazing man at world youth day they held here a couple of summers back.

To buy the catholic votes in the coming election. Out of Bush and kerry, despite the popes thoughts on iraq are on the same wavelength with bush on issues such as gay marriage and abortian etc etc.
You get in good with their daddy you get in good with his daughter.

not to get off topic... and the ppl of the forum are gunna eat me alive for this one...

roman catholic church is against gay marriage- so is bush... it is a far fetched idea- but im sure the pope patted him on the back for it..

also just to make everything clear... as a roman catholic myself.. i have no problem with gay marriage- as long as it isnt under the catholic church

True, but they also disagree on a number of issues, which probably explains why the Pope ended up criticizing Bush with regards to Iraq.

Did anyone actually see the footage of the Pope's speech? Bush sat down, grinning like a school boy - probably expecting a nice pat on the back. When he realized that the pope was getting stuck into him, he started to squirm and look around, still wearing his cheeky grin. Irrespective of whether you agree with Bush's policies or not - god damn it was funny.

It was simply a misunderstanding, the Pope forgot to read the script that Karen Hughes had written for him. I agree it was funny, but it wasn't the first time Bush's myopic view of the world got him in trouble. Dam the CIA they were supposed to have warned him of the Pope disposition on the Iraq war. Bush could have prepared himself if he just read the newspaper...oh thats right he doesn't read the news.

Well, that's one subjective interpretation of it.

Yeah I think after this vist Bush has decided another "rouge state" is going on his "list".

This one should be a push over. Population = 900, no visable defence network.

However intel suggests the use of "unconventional" wepons is highly suspected in the case of an invasion is highly probable.

>>>Guessed what it is yet?<<<

About as "unconventional" as it gets.
