Tazix with Akeel on drums........and me on gin and tonic this week at SHAPE
This week at Shape...
TAZIX, Twisted/swing kids
Dennis Tran better known as Tazix has headlined every major event in Vancouver since his debut at Spooky 6. Playing alongside alomst every major Trance name to come through this city, he has helped propell the Twisted dynasty into hyper space. A much in demand DJ both on the local and international scene, Dennis is rising to higher success with every place he graces the decks. As Vancouver's fastest rising Trance DJ, his sets do not fail to dissapoint. Powerful, melodic, driving and seamless are words that define his style, coupled with his energy and charisma a Tazix set can be summed up in one word: infectious. Come catch the wave at Shape this week as we have Tazix for a special two hour set with Akeel on drums.
Cover is only $5.00

"Shape is your gateway to the underground"
maybe you could photoshop Azim out of that picture so I can actually look at it without falling out my chair laughing...
That was Azim auditioning for his Dawn of the Dead role =P
no comment............but quite entertaining to say the very least!!!!!!
That pic is fucking GOLD!!!
Tazix looks like Azim just grabbed his ass...Azim's like "I want to eat your balls"

erm
much respect for Mirka
i have no comment for the rest of the line up
the thing is love him or hate him Tazix draws people.....nobody comes out to see me spin (sorry but it's true for Van...........I know I can pull 500+ in regina)
The point of having a clubnight is to have people in the club.
Dennis draws alot of people. Maybe if you guys would actually show up on a regular basis I could book different acts more often.
For example: 5 people showed up to see Vlad spin.......FIVE.
I tried to book Walsh but he is drowning in beer in montreal :S come home Sean!!!!!!!!!!!!
I also have to work with three other guys who have to agree with who I want to book. Not easy, alot of egos are invloved and it gets messy.
I don't have the luxury of a weekend night so it makes it that much tougher.............
I play from 12:30-close if it makes you happier. Personally I don't really care. I don't see any of you running your own night (Danny and Sean excluded for obvious reasons)
The Darren Pearce show was not cheap. And trying to get people to go to that is like pulling teeth. Eventhough he mixed reactivate series 15-18 and is awesome.
You guys only come out and support if it's someone like Tiesto, PVD, or Armin...
Support your own for godsakes.
Sorry I know I am on a major rant but I have seriously had it. None of you even came out when I "battled" Azim..... something that Azim and I though would be fun (and it was)
As for the Anti-Azim/Tazix alliance..........that is just plain mean.
If you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all.
Props Mirk, I for one know how tough it is. It's hard enough on weekends; I don't think I would even have it in me to promote on a weeknight because Vancouver's scene, frankly, is weak. There are maybe 10-15 TAs that actually go out with any regularity, and at Viva we'd be lucky to see more than a couple of them on any given night, so don't take it personally =)
Promoting has got to be one of the least rewarding businesses out there; unless you have hundreds of thousands to play with then the amount of work involved compared to the amount of money actually yielded is less than your average job at McDonald's.
Thanks for understanding Sean..........not alot of people understand how tough it is and think I make gobs of money to play every week. Truth is none of the res have been paid since we each spilt $90.00 last sept.
We don't even have a bar tab.
DJ's that come spin amaze me with asking to be paid...........so I make this deal with them. Pull over 50 people WHO PAY and I will give you half the door.
I can't pay you if there are 5 people in the club, but i will buy you a drink. I have played for free tons and will continue to do so. I just want to play, because i honestly love it.....
Sean/Danny I admire you guys so much because you are exactly what this city needs: hard working, honest and passionate about THE MUSIC ....
Thank you
regardless it will be fun..........hope to see some of you down, if you haven't met me before i am the firey red head with hammering tracks
you guys have convinced me.. i'll really try to make it
btw, its say 'this week' but not what day.. I presume a friday?
Shape is every Thursday at The Drink.
doors are at 9pm......
the line up is as follows:
Akeel 9-10:30
Tazix 10:30-12:30am (with Akeel on drums)
12:30- close me!!!! (Mirka fyi........hopefully not to drunk to spin)
SHAPE is located at 398 Richards at the drink nightclub
every thursday

nice posts mirka....
thankfully (I hope) that no one has anything against tazix personally...he is a super nice guy and so what if his track selection doesnt please the super freak tanceaddicts...lol..i'd like to think its all for fun.....
anyway if i'm in town i'll deff come see jds....i saw him at wemf 3 summers ago..he came on after john 00 fleming, just after the sun had rose in the morning and dropped the phatest beaks i had ever heard...just nutz to do that after a hard trance dj..i think everyone from all 6 other tents rushed over when they heard jds killing it!
never forget that set!
serge
ive met tazix
honestly, i dont like the guy, he has the whole "im a superstar dj i dont have to talk to you" kind of thing going, azim on the other hand is one hell of a guy
i try to support local artists as much as i can, but in no possible way i will come to see tazix play, even if i didnt have to pay, and got a ride to the club and back home
never the less, mirkas comments made alot of sense so i will be there on thurs to support mirka
good job buddy
I don't know any of them personally, and don't plan to .. ignorance is bliss!
Yah know I would come support but I wake up at 5:00am every morning during the week. And I just can't pull of the all nighter anymore.
Nothing personal against either Azim or Tazix, Mirka...I think they're just shitty DJs who don't deserve the high profiles they enjoy.
Oh, BTW...I for one am proud to support locals, I was there when you were supposed to battle Azim but I left before Azim got there, I guess.
Mirka, you've always been a great person. And you're right about a lot of the stuff you said. Also, Sean and you are both right, the scene here is brutal. There is just no roots for the music here, hardly any producers (there are some though.. I think Powerplant and Shiloh are both local, just to name two), etc. etc...
Anyways, before I put my foot any farther down my throat, i will make an effort to come down one time, but we all know i'm a lazy sack so I won't make any promises.. why make a promise that I might not be able to keep. I do still tune in to your show every week though whenever I'm home or have a radio nearby!
As for azim and tazix, maybe some people get a bit frustrated with their selections, others maybe great frustrated that they always play at every event they host (which is their perogative) (and I realize that they both don't play at every event, but usually at least one, and I'm not even sure if its both of them hosting or just one of them doing a lot of the promotional/hosting work). Sometimes they promote local talent, but they are the headliners, the last djs before the headliners at other shows, etc etc and I'm sure it frustrates some of the local djs who feel they have talent and something to contribute to the community but because of a lack of slots (clubs, clubs events, major events, anything) that it's difficult. I don't know, I have never met or heard them spin, so I try to watch what I say, and everything I just said about them now is just a guess (guesses) and should be treated so. I don't presume to assume anything, I'm just basing my thoughts off of what other people seem to say.
Maybe some people are getting tired of
HEADLINER
AZIM + TAXIZ
their friends
as the lineups. Again, just a guess. And if people lose respect for me speaking my mind here and being honest and trying to throw guesses out there, then that's up to them. Whatever (I have a rep. as a jerk anyways). If I'm totally wrong, someone tell me and enlighten me and make me a wiser human being =) (And i don't mean that sarcastically.. sometimes you never learn unless you ask or say things.. can't always learn by just watching).
i'll be there to support you mirka, although i don't think i've met you yet. see you tm
and lets get tipsy!
greg you hit it on the money maker. I just have to keep my comments private as the post nazis watch me like hawks and I am censored.
This is the reason alot of dj's become promoters so that they get to play....I am playing the jds show here (9-10:30 and in calgary 11-12:30)
and I am happy. This tour was my idea, I made it happen and I am very honoured the Drunken Monkey crew have asked me to play and the actual slot before Darren........I feel as if I don't deserve it as I am not a breaks DJ, but also vindicated slightly because someone has faith in me.
Adam.............I know you were at the drink. Thank you
The rest of the TA maases.......(or Timo Maases
)
I am human, I get pissed off, frustrated and angry. I guess I am a naive person who just wants everyone to get along and play nice.......
yes I'd love to play a twisted show and get booked because of my talent not because of inside connections....but that isn't the way it works. Politics aren't just for gov't officials.....they are happenning at a club/rave near you
*sigh* politics = drama and nowadays it seems so unavoidlable.
i remember back than when all the big productions/promoters did joint shows and everybody was united together. good ol'times...
i have respect for all the local DJs trying to show their talent to the world, even azim and tazix a little tiny bit
it is tough business to attract crowds to something that is of obscure nature to probably about 80% of the population (maybe more, maybe less, who knows). now that i've been in holland, i feel a tad spoiled because almost anywhere you go you get electronic music and it's big and popular. i think one day the scene can be as big in vancouver but we all need to work very hard for it and those who are working right now will be the forefathers of the scene in the future. i really think we ALL should make an effort to promote events and DJs, its almost our responisibility to do so being part of TA.
yes, i do dislike tazix and azim's DJing skills. i never had the chance to meet them, but i have seen them around and their behavior, and i dislike that also. they are arrogant assholes who can't spin and think they are gods. maybe once you get to know them outside the club scene they are nice guys, but honestly, they need to take Being a DJ 100, or at least tone down on their superiority complex
p.s. i have not attended many of the recent events for the distance related reasons
I want to thank everyone for coming out. Eventhough there wa sonly 40 some odd people there, I played foor almost three hours (12-2:45)
Dennis' set was more progressive and even I was surprised.
The new mixer at the drink also made for a pleasurable time behind the decks....
See ya at JDS next week
