SOS - save my MD player!

I have the worst luck sometimes.. last night some gatorade ended up spilling on my Sony MD player, I cleaned it off (exterior) as best I could, hoping by the morning it might dry enough and still have life in it... anyway, not working still, I can see that there is some of that evil liquid inside... grrrrr

Any recos on how I should proceed? What is the best stuff to try to clean it with? I just bought it a few months ago and I'd hate to have to buy another one, I haven't tried bringing it back to the Sony store yet since I am taking a wild guess the warranty doesn't cover this type of thing. I'll probably bring it by the store later to see what they suggest, figured maybe someone here might have an idea...
ugh... any help would be appreciated.. thx

clean it up with an alcohol based solution it will dry quickly, and if that doesn't work, then clean it up however, and claim that it just stopped working!

Honestly I would take it to the sony store (or wherever you bought it) before doing anything else. Obviously they're going to point out that it's your fault but if you're trying to fix it, that might void the warranty if there is one.

I dropped my MD awhile back - luckily I had a warranty from Future shop as well as from sony so I was covered...

good luck (and are you going to be at aria this wk-end Kate?)

You have to make sure that there is no sign of liquid INSIDE and it should pass under warranty. I work at an electronic store, I deal with repairs every day. It's going to be hqard because of the size of the unit. Like Alec said, use alcohol and a small toothbrush to clean all surfaces that are sticky. Put it back together and bring it back for repair.
Good luck.

it doesn't really matter if on the outside it looks clean. When Sony will open it for repairs they'll see the liquid damage (its shows on the electronic boards)...

it happened to me with my digital camera, and it will void your warrantee.

Your best bet is to bring it to someone who knows electronics so he can clean everything out, inside and out. Then send it to Sony

Thanks guys..

Question though.. I'm not positive, but once the player is 'opened', doesn't that void the warranty right there? Just wondering if they will be able to tell or not.
I'm going to do my best to get it rhoroughly cleaned... 'cause spending another $150 for something this geigh would suck.

Sarah: I was planning on going, but ma girls bailed on me so looks like I am missing this one.. I have seen Tijs enough times but it's been years since I have seen MB in Montreal, and never at Aria.. so looks like it'll be another 5 months or whenever her bday is before I catch a set.
I was considering going to see Claude Young in your 'hood next weekend, I see Doug is on the bill that night also..
I wish a promoter here would have picked him up. Been far too long since he has played in these parts... err.. claude.. not doug
- though I wish he'd get his ass here.. it'll take Heiko Laux or Anthony Rother to bring him up I bet.

iF there's no SEAL to be broken, I don't thinkm they'll be able to tell that it's been opened.

Well if you do come down, let me know, we can hook up for pre-drinks or something.

Surface isn't the greatest venue, but the whole TO crew will be out in fine fashion. I hope you can make it since I won't meet you this weekend.
